Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M.
in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Blood, Secretary Reed, Board Members
Dustin, Price and Russell and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of previous meeting were accepted as corrected.
Read letter from Raoul Daigle, Stewardship Chairman of the
Church of the Good Shepherd requesting permission to use Philip
Welch Park and ball field for the Church ' s annual picnic on June
16, 1974 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. It was moved, seconded
and voted to grant permission to use the area at the specified
time subject to the condition that the Park be free from debris
at the conclusion of the event.
Read letter from Mr. Woodbury and Petition from the resi-
dents of Maple Ridge Road requesting a sanitary sewer be con-
structed in Maple Ridge Road from Ash Hill to Pine Ridge Roads .
Mr . Woodbury explained the sewer is needed in order to make a
• particular lot buildable. The Board agreed to take the matter
under advisement and contact Mr . Woodbury by the 20th of May when
more information will be available and a statement of policy can -
be issued.
Read letter from Selectmen relative to the Grolier Building
on South Street. The Board met with a group of citizens from
South Street area at 8:00 P.M. to discuss drainage problems caused
by circumstances surrounding the Grolier Building. Approximately
ten people attended the meeting. Mr. Robert Beane, 337 South
Street acted as spokesman for the group. The Board outlined the
drainage program scheduled to be installed in South Street and
agreed that the spokesman, Robert Beane, would be notified of
a meeting that will be arranged between the Superintendent and
an engineer representing the Grolier property owner.
Read letter from John R. Gilbertson regarding the use of
Arnold Avenue for egress and access to industrially zoned land
in Woburn. Since the Selectmen have taken action on this it was
accepted as a point of information.
It was moved, seconded and voted to sign the Request for
Transfer of funds from Reserve for Water Department insurance
in the amount of $9,223.99 and Public Works Sewer Department
in the amount of $10, 540.06 to cover the period of 1974.
The Board reviewed bids for materials. It was moved,
seconded and voted that the bids for materials listed as follows
be approved with the exception of bituminous products which
shall be rebid:

Read letter from Richard J. Dempsey regarding the M.B.T.A.
location. There is concern due to the proximity of the proposed
station, parking area, etc. , to the well fields at Beverly Revay.
Point of information.
The Board signed Petition for requesting layout of Hopkins
Street by County Commissioners and letter to State Department
of Public Works requesting Hopkins Street funds for 1974-75 be
added to Chapter 90 Construction.
Read letter from Clifford Wadman regarding ball playing at
the Pearl Street School . The Superintendent was instructed to
forward the complaint to the Superintendent of Schools as^the
area involved comes under his direction and control .
Read letter from Charles R. Swett, owner and operator of the
Dragon Corner Store. The Superintendent was instructed to write
Mr . Swett that repairs to the sidewalk in front of his property
at 206 West Street will be included in the 1974-75 construction
program.
Read Petition from the residents and abuttors of Boyce
Street requesting a preliminary hearing regarding the proposed
acceptance of Boyce Street as a public way. The Superintendent
was instructed to schedule a Preliminary Hearing before the
' summer schedule becomes effective.
The Board signed the Bill Roll dated May 10th and the Pay
Roll for the period ending May 5th.
