' Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P. M.
in Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Russell , Secretary Dustin, Board
Members Blood, Price and Botka, Superintendent Louanis and
Douglas Cowell of the Finance Committee.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as corrected.
Read letter from Richard Standley and letter from Richard
R. Foster relative to purchasing scrap steel at the Reading
Dump. It was moved, seconded and voted that a proposal and
specifications be prepared for the Board ' s review concerning
the sale of scrap metal at the Town Dump. It was also suggested
an opinion be obtained from Town Counsel on this matter.
Mr. Price suggested that we write to Town Counsel request-
ing additional information on the status of the DeMartino bond
on Contract 76-2.
' The Superintendent reviewed the schedule of monies re-
ceived from the sale of materials received at the Recycling
Area. As a decline in public participation was indicated the
Board suggested that the Superintendent contact the Reading
Chronicle and request a promotional article be published in an
effort to stimulate the project.
Meeting adjourned temporarily at 8:00 P. M. in order that
the Board meet as the Board of Survey and reconvened at 9: 10
P.M.
Reviewed memorandum from 128 Resource Recovery Council
calling attention to a meeting to be held Wednesday, December
15, 1976 at the Josiah Smith Tavern in Weston Center. Mr.
Botka and the Superintendent will attend the meeting.
Acting Assistant Superintendent Bergeron presented a report
on the parks and recreational facilities of the Town. The re-
port covered a complete inventory of all the parks and play-
grounds and school areas as well as conservation land within
the Town using the national standard as a tool to evaluate the
needs of the Town compared to the existing facilities. The
report took into consideration input from the Town Meeting
Members, Planning Board, Recreation Committee and the School
Department, assessing the improvements needed to the existing
facilities plus proposed recommendations for future facilities
to serve the whole Town. A copy of this report is appended
to these minutes. The Board accepted the report with thanks.
The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending Novem-
ber 28, 1976 and the Bill Roll dated December 3, 1976.
