HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-02-23 Board of Public Works Minutes February 23, 1976 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P. M. in the auditorium of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn Street. Present were Chairman Russell , Secretary Dustin, Board Members Blood, Price and Botka and Superintendent Louanis. Minutes of the meeting of February 9th were accepted as written. Read Notice of Public Hearing regarding the proposed exten— sion of the main trunk sanitary sewer in Pearl , Short, Mill , Main, Grove, H, E, A and B Streets, Collins and Libby Avenues, Meadow Brook Lane and Heritage Drive. The Chairman delivered a short presentation to an audience of approximately ninety rela— tive to the proposed sewer extension covering the items of the sewer frontage assessment, sewer house connection, sewer rental charges and the methods of payment available to the home owner. 1 Following a question and answer period it was moved, seconded and voted to close the Hearing. Members of the Engineering Divi— sion remained to answer technical questions. Meeting adjourned temporarily and reconvened in Room 16, Municipal Building at 8:45 P. M. Read letter from Richard Boutiette, Director of Public Works, Wakefield concerning the construction of a main sewer in Line Road, Wakefield. It was accepted as a point of infor— mation. The Board reviewed briefly the Capital Budget as prepared by the Superintendent and accepted it as a point of information. It was moved, seconded and voted to table action on the Public Hearing regarding the proposed extension of the main trunk sewer until the meeting of March 1 , 1976. Reviewed the bid openings received on February 19, 1976 for a 4,000 gallon storage tank for Ferric Chloride and a 4,000 gallon storage tank for Caustic Soda together with the report of the qualification check by Mr. Bergeron, Acting Asst. Superintendent in charge of Engineering. Following a discussion it was moved, seconded and voted to award Contract 76-38 for a 4,000 Gal . Caustic Soda Storage Tank to the low bidder, Winston , Builders Corporation in the amount of $3, 110 subject to their ability to meet the terms of the contract. It was moved, seconded and voted to award Contract 76-3A for a 4,000 Gal . Ferric Chloride Storage Tank to Winston Builders Corporation in the amount of $3,661 subject to their ability to meet the terms of the contract as this was the only proper bid. Read letter from Whitman and Howard, Inc. citing Progress to Date respecting the Master Drainage Study and requesting an extension of the contract period of two (2) weeks to enable them to completely analyze the computer output information. Mr. Price abstained from the discussion and the vote following. It was moved, seconded and voted 4 in favor, Mr. Price abstained, to grant the two week extension to the Contract. The Board signed the Pay Roll for the period ending February 22 and the Bill Roll dated February 27, 1976. Meeting adjourned at 10: 10 P. M. Res ctfully submitted, Secrtar y etary be
