HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-11-03 Board of Public Works Minutes November 3, 1975 Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P . M. in Room 16, Municipal Building. Present were Acting Chairman Dustin, Board Members Blood, Price and Botka, Superintendent Louanis and Donald Trudeau from the Finance Committee. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written. The Board read memorandum from the Superintendent rela— tive to the joint bid involving surrounding towns for rock and solar salt. Following a review of the bids it was moved, seconded and voted to award the contract for rock and solar salt to the low bidder Eastern Minerals, cost to the Town to be $14.48 per ton for either material . Letter from Town Counsel , Donald L. Connors, relative to House Bill 6683 was accepted as a point of information. ' Meeting adjourned temporarily in order that the Board could meet as the Board of Survey and reconvened at 9: 15 P. M. Reviewed plan and read note from Superintendent relative to possible development of land on John Street near the Wakefield Town Line. The Board agreed to meet with a representative of the Bradley Company at 7:45 P. M. on November 17 to discuss the proposed project. The Board signed Contract for Engineering Services for the Development of a Master Drainage Study for the Town of Reading, Massachusetts with Whitman and Howard, Inc. Read note from the Superintendent outlining a time table to be followed whereby all citizens of the Town shall be provided with treated water from the Treatment Plant phasing out the process of introducing water into the system direct from the Revay Wells. The schedule will begin with flushing out the pipes on the west side of the Town, augmenting the staff at the pumping station, a balancing ' program of increasing the supply at the pumping station and reducing the supply at revay and preparing a contract for the needed chemical storage. The Board reviewed Motion under Article 6 to be presented at Town Meeting. It was moved, seconded and voted to present this Motion, relative to salaries for the Public Works and Construction, , Maintenance and Operation of the Water Works to Town Meeting. The Board reviewed Motions under Article 10 concerning the "Relocation and Alteration of a Portion of the Sidelines of Grove Street". It was moved, seconded and voted to present the short Motion under Article 10 which is the normal form we have been using in the past. Mr. Botka gave a brief summary of the meeting at 128 West Recovery Council . The Board requested that he prepare a written report and submit it at a future meeting. The Board signed the Payroll for the period ending November 2d and the Bill Roll dated November 7, 1975. It was moved, seconded and voted to adjourn at 9:50 P. M. Resp fully s mitted, Secretary .
