Meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7: 30 P. M. in
I.i ® Room 16, Municipal Building.
Present were Chairman Russell , Secretary Dustin, Board Mem-
bers Blood, Price and Botka and Superintendent Louanis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted with correc-
tion.
The Board reviewed the bids for Cast Iron Pipe. The Super-
intendent reported that the low bidder Carron, Inc. was presently
on strike and the time limit on the bid from Municipal Services
the next low bidder had expired and they have now increased their
price. Following a discussion it was moved, seconded and voted
to award the contract to Johns-Manville for one truck load of P.
V. C. pipe; 300 feet of 6" pipe at $3.60 per foot and 1200 feet
of 8" pipe at $5.30 per foot.
The Board reviewed the plan for the proposed drain at 252
Haverhill Street. It was moved, seconded and voted to grant
permission to the property owners, Francis G. and Geraldine F.
MacCausland, to install a drain at their expense at 252 Haverhill
Street under the direction of the Town.
The Chairman, John H. Russell , signed letter to the Massa-
chusetts Department of Public Works requesting funds for the
1977 Chapter 90 Program for the reconstruction of Salem Street.
The Board requested that a copy of the letter be sent to Mr.
Arthur Reynolds of 182 Salem Street as he has evidenced an in-
terest in procedure pertaining to the reconstruction and repair
of Salem Street.
George R. and Margaret T. Layhe owners of the property at
212 Woburn Street had previously signed a Release from Damages
and it was moved, seconded and voted to sign the Order of Taking
for drainage and sewage purposes at this location.
The necessary releases had been obtained from the property
owners at 48 Charles Street. It was moved, seconded and voted
to sign the Order of Taking for drainage and sewage purposes.
Read letter from the Town Clerk regarding Chapter 303,
Acts of 1975 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts "Further ,
Regulating Meetings of Governmental Bodies" to become effective
January 1 , 1975• It was accepted as a point of information.
The Board signed the following:
Payroll for the period ending September 21 , 1975.
Bill Roll dated September 26, 1975•
Contract 75-12 Sanitary Sewer Construction.
Reading Municipal Light Department and the New England Tel . &
Telegraph Company Petitioned for permission to relocate pole
54/17 8 feet southerly from its existing location. It was moved,
seconded and voted 4 in favor, Mr. Blood abstained, to grant per-
mission to move the pole. The Superintendent signed the Order.
Read letter from the Board of Appeals and letter from
Latham and Latham relative to the re-hearing on Thursday, Sept-
ember 25, 1975 in regard to the property of Jacquelyn B. Godfrey
et al . It was agreed the Chairman, Secretary and Superintendent ,
would attend the Hearing.
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 P. M. to meet with the Board of
Selectmen. R
