Topics of Discussion:
Request of New Members
• This will go in the 4/4/19 and 4/11/19 Newsflash with a due date for nominations of 4/30/19
Review of K-2 Math Data
• When students are below or not tested, there is a grade level discussion with Principal about the
plan for unassessed students or students who are below benchmark.
• Its a bigger problem for 2nd graders who are below Hiding benchmark than for 1"graders
because 2nd graders are approaching the"end"of instruction on parts of number as part of the
general program.
• It's interesting how the first graders are stronger at combining parts of number than identifying
parts of number.
• What decision was made to decide who to assess on second part of Hiding Assessment?
• Question to Jan Rhein(grade 3 teacher)—do you notice a difference in 3'd grade this year?
o Very evident that they were able to think about how to work with numbers, more
flexible about working with numbers and seeing parts and talking about numbers.
o Able to start the 3r°grade math curriculum much sooner with much less review than
prior years.
Idea for 19-20 PTO Presentation—how have we addressed math work—introducing the Developing Number
Concepts work and new work we're considering for V to 5a'grade.
Equity and Inclusion
• How can we empower students to feel comfortable discussing equity issues?

• How do we create a school where these issues are discussed—that it's okay to bring things up?
• Can we put more attention on teaching the vocabulary that is out there? They hear a lot of
vocabulary but don't know what it means --can we clarify the vocabulary.
• If we have more information about what something is factually we can make our own decisions.
• How can we be more pro-active and not reactive?
• Julia handed out"Critical Practices for Anti-Bias Education"
Next Meeting Topics:
• Update on math data and action plans for students below benchmark
• Discussion of"Critical Practices for Anti-Bias Education" book
