New Business:
Discussion Question:
"In light of recent events at the elementary, middle and high schools, what Is our responsi-
bility as family and educators of elementary school age children to address bias and equi-
ty "
The School Council came up with some Ideas and resources that would be helpful in speak-
ing with students. It is important that any discussion with students is age appropriate and
at their developmental level.
A Committee to write curriculum to help staff and parents, like Parent University, books, en-
richment programs, identifying safe people to talk to at school, bringing it back to our core
values at Killiam (TRRFCC), and discussion during open circle time In the classroom were
some of the ideas discussed.
Attendance, review of current data: 12 out of 20 classes in December had no unexcused
absences!
Updates in District-wide Curriculum work:
New committees:
-Report Card Committee
-Professional Development Committee: The PDC discussed a Summer Institute, which would
be held the week after school is out for professional development. This would ensure teach-
ers wouldn't have to take time out of the classroom during the school year and could meet
all of their requirements within that week.
Updated Standards In Assessments. New kits in K-5 and New Curriculum
Update on Budget Process:
Ms. Leveque explained the budget for Killam, enrollment numbers, classroom space for next
year, and the technology budget per school and allocation.
Per pupal allotment went up 4% and the Killam budget went up $4000 for next year.
New hires for next year will be a Special Education Para Educator and a 1st Grade Teacher.
We will not have a RISE preschool classroom at Killam next year due to space.
Adjournment
There being no further business, the School Council adjourned at 4:00 with plans to recon-
vene on February 4, 2019 at 3:00 pm. The council will submit ideas to Ms.Leveque on focus
areas for this year prior to the next meeting.
