There will be a police presence to direct traffic at the construction site, but not at the school. We may need to delay tardy times during the construction period. Traffic Patterns: Cones and Cans were taken in, so that plows could get In. Reminders of traffic flow patterns will be sent out in the weekly up-date. School Council could possibly look at traffic patterns this spring with an effort to create the same arrival and dismissal procedures to increase safety for our students. It is possible to look into a grant to research our traffic patterns or have Reading Police Department conduct a small study. Suggestions could include opening the gate onto Haverhill Street. Changes discussed this spring could be implemented next fall. Parent education could include videos, brochures, and perhaps a meeting. Killam Parent Handbook: Ms. Leveque shared the"quick guide"to the Handbook will families this week. She has received no feedback as of this meeting time. Curriculum and Instruction Plans: Mrs. Christine Kelley, Assistant Superintendent joined the school council to review curriculum and instruction plans for the district. Step 1 has been to work on a systematic approach in order to create uniformity across the district. K-5 ELA and Math guides have been released and are available under the parent section of the Killam website and the district website. Ms. Leveque will be unpacking these guides in her weekly update beginning in January. The science guides are almost complete and will be available later this year. The middle school social studies guides were the focus this year as the standards drastically changed. Next year, elementary and high school social studies guides will be the focus. Step 2 is to look at programs, resources, and pacing guides that best support the standards. Report Cards: A districtwide committee has been formed comprising of teachers and administrators. Parents will be invited to give feedback at a later date. The goals of the committee are to present timely Information to families that they can understand and be quick and efficient for teachers. Attendance: Attendance and tardy data was shared with the school council. Attendance has improved, accept there was a significant dip on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving with 58 students absent. Ms. Leveque will be discussing this with Dr. Doherty and addressing this concern with next year In mind. Adjournment There being no further business, the School Council adjourned at 4:15 with plans to reconvene on January 7, 2019 at 3:00 pm.
