Members - Not Present: Carole Scrima Others Present: none Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Carol Oniskey Topics of Discussion: Acceptance of Minutes from June 10,2013 Elder Services Reportfor June and July 2013-Accepted and Approved Financial Report for Fiscal Year End 2013 and July/August 2014-Accepted and Approved Old Business: Council reviewed the Burbank Recreation budget through December 2013. Slightly less than V2 the discretionary budget remains for entertainment through lune 2014. Council reviewed summer events. There was concern about the booth placement at Friends and Family Day contributing to less foot traffic. The Administrator will request better placement next year. The summer dinner and dedication were very successful. The Council agreed to continue this event into next year. Christine Hansen reviewed the status of the Farmer's Market. Reading does not receive coupons for Elders due to the set-up of the Market. In order to qualify more farmers would need to participate. The Case Worker will be going out on leave starting in early December. The Administrator Is looking for a part-time replacement. Van update - future budgeting issues will not allow anything to happen for about 1-2 years. New Business: 100 + Birthday discussion- lane discussed the 2011 census which indicated the aging population in Reading. A significant number of seniors are in their 90's, and Page 1 1 � Town of Reeding-Meeting Minutes about 10 seniors are over the age of 100. The COA will be looking into ways of celebrating centennial birthdays of seniors in Reading. Possible ideas included; cake and/or flower delivery, tree planting, public bench plaques, brick memorial, and Citations from Town Selectmen. There will be further discussion at subsequent meetings. Information explaining services provided to Reading residents by MVES was given out. MVES currently serves 301 Reading seniors at a cost of approx. 1.3 million dollars. RCN event recordings information will be tabled to next meeting- October 21, 2013 Steve handed out an informative packet titled; " A Guide for Board Members" in regards to the suggested duties of a COA Board and best practices. The Board was asked to thoroughly read packet and return in October to discuss. The Board also received a Municipal survey report Indicating current priorities of Massachusetts COA's/Elder Services departments Erica Deane volunteered to be secretary for our October meeting. We currently have a rotating secretary schedule, but would happily take on a volunteer to be permanent secretary for the year. Our October meeting date has been scheduled for the 21" due to Town conflicts. Please not the change on your schedules. The Group COA photo will be taken at October meeting. Page 1 2 2o,,.o..11
