BAKER GOVERNOR November 28, 2017 Robert LeLacheur Town Manager 16 Lowell Street Reading, MA 01867 Dear Town Manager LeLacheur: OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS STATE HOUSE ® BOSTON, MA 02133 (617) 725 -4000 KARVN E. POLITO LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR I'am writing to congratulate the Town of Reading on having completed the best practices chosen as part of your Community Compact, which we signed together on August 11, 2016. Fostering a strong partnership with our municipalities continues to be a top priority for the Baker - Polito Administration, and it is exciting to have the Community Compact program available for our partners in local government. As you know, Community Compacts create clear mutual standards, expectations, and accountability for both the state and municipalities as together we seek to create better government for our citizens. I want to applaud the Town for choosing and finalizing the Maximizing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Opportunities, Preparing for Success, and Foster Appropriate Economic Development best practices. With assistance from a Community Compact grant and the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED), Reading was able to complete these best practices and make improvements in these key areas. The Governor and I appreciate Reading participating in the Community Compact program and we look forward to partnering with you again in future rounds of the best practice program. cc: Sean Cronin, Senior Deputy Commissioner of Local Services ® Mar . - R11 P.— .a 4f;3 , Saunders, Caitlin From: LeLacheur, Bob Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2017 2:15 PM To: Saunders, Caitlin Subject: FW: [Reading MA] Parking Sticker (Sent by Sara, sweetnsassyjones @gmail.com) BOS packet Robert W. If you don't want to receive such e- mails, you can change your settings at https: / /www.readingma.gov /user /475 /edit. Message: Dear Board of Selectman, I am a commuting Reading resident. I wanted to also express my great disappointment in the parking sticker increase and the total lack of consideration for a second vehicle sticker discount. Do any BOS members even commute via the train? I have been following the BOS minutes /agendas so was fully aware that this was going to occur and was quite shocked when I read it may increase to $200 in some of the documents. As others have mentioned, sometimes I too need to swap cars for whatever reason and simply having a reasonable discount for a second vehicle sticker would help. Only I commute into the city so there would never be two cars in my household at the depot at the same time. its I am NOT buying a second vehicle sticker for $150 and I am sure there are may others that will not be as well. This town is in dire straits financially and raising the cost of the parking sticker for such a small group of people is certainly not a savvy way to bring in more revenue for the town. And, another override attempt is just a band -aid. "The increase is meant to cover costs attributed to the train depot that were otherwise being paid for by taxpayers." What does this even mean? I AM A TAXPAYER in this town. D,\Da Saunders, Caitlin From: Burns, lane Sent: Monday, December 11, 2017 1:43 PM To: Saunders, Caitlin Subject: Email From Resident Caitlin, Please forward to the Board of Selectmen, Thanks I received a phone call from a resident, Marie Zenewicz, last week. She was upset about the new parking fee at the Depot. As a senior on a fix income, $150 is too costly for her and she would like to have a senior citizen discount considered. Marie uses the train 4 -5 times per year to see her doctor in Boston. At the current fee of $150, she will be paying $30 to park for each visit. Parking on a side street is not an option as the 2 hour time limit is restrictive when going to Boston. Also she cannot park at the MBTA lot since she does not have a smart phone. Marie contacted me because she does not have email. She requested I pass along her concern to the Selectmen. This is something that affects not just her but a large number of Reading seniors. Marie can be reached at (781) 775 -5012.
