Topics of Discussion:
The meeting was called to order by Donna Schenkel at 7:04 pm in the History Room of the
Reading Public Library.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Treasurer's report changed only with the addition of interest as of the end of February. No
payments have been made. Two requests for reimbursements were submitted, but not paid
yet. Grant money plus interest totals $6806.04.
Donna reported the New England School of Performing Arts confirmed they have new dates
and will run their program.
Publicity and Survey:
Mary Ann was not present, but had stated in an email that she would prepare an article
about the survey results for distribution. It could include information about the grant
application process, the survey results, as well as a pitch for people who might be interested
in joining the Council in the future. She will contact Reading Rec over the summer about an
email drop to their data base. Your Community Connection ad will run in Sept/Oct about
the grant application process. Currently YCC is including information about our survey.
Donna will reserve the signs on the common for September reminding about the deadline
for grant applications.
Nancy reported that so far we have at about 83 responses to the survey—fairly equally
divided between respondents from a web link vs the email invite. Specifics were not
available yet.
Donna talked about collecting photos from grant recipients' events to post on our web page,
or on the Town website. Nancy will email recipients and ask them to send along photos of
events if possible. This will be useful for the next Reception as well.
Member Reappointment forms were mailed to Donna, Rose and Nancy, and they all
submitted them to Town Hall. Donna suggested that we begin to try to recruit Associate
Members who could start to get involved, so that when there is a new opening, it will be
more easily filled. Associate members do not vote, but can participate in discussions. The
question was raised about a minimum age requirement. Donna will check with the Town
Clerk to see if it would be possible to have a High School student participate. Other
suggestions for recruiting, included Newcomer's Clubs, asking friends and neighbors, and
posting information in our publicity articles.
Donna will prepare the new RCC logo over the summer.
Nancy will post the dates of recipients' events on the website. Most of them have concluded
already. She also reported that Arts Reading expressed an interest in conducting a
community session about how to apply for an RCC Grant in the fall.
Meeting for next year will be scheduled for Mondays in the Library as long as there will be
no fee. The next meeting will be in September.
The meeting adjourned at 7:43 pm.
