b. Baseline data toward literacy goal
Fountas and Pinnell
• As a staff, we are looking at the difference between the levels
and the reading behaviors that students need to have to
improve their reading skills.
• The various text levels have levels of skill that support student
movement between each level. The letter level is the
instructional level for that student. The teachers are
encouraging students to think about instruction in bands. They
are encouraged to choose books within a range.

F and P assessments
• One to one with the teacher
• Student-teacher conference
• Student reads aloud and then talks about what they glean from
the text
• Teacher codes the behaviors
• Valuable data is collected through procedural analysis
• Given three times a year but other assessments are done
throughout the year.
• The children are aware of the range and they are supported to
make good choices for reading.
• The goal is to support the students with a love of reading
• We will look at grade levels fall scores and we will also examine
the results throughout the year.
• Currently all the teachers are using the new Fountas and Pinnell
system. Each grade level has two new kits.
• We look at the data and we examine who needs the most
supports, what kind of supports do they need, and we want to
continually look at their needs.
