Call to:Order: 6:30 by-Thomas Procopio.. .
Acceptance of Minutes from 2/12/2018: Amendments/corrections Barbara Carney's name,
was incorrectly,recorded as Barbara Kennedy, Jane is misspelled with a "y" twice.. Accepted .
as amended.
Elder Services February Report (Admin): For the most frequent programs, the number:of
people/number of services (#.of people/# of times) is now recorded and show growth.
Accepted.
Financial February Report (Admin): The number of households with 'people age 65+ went
up from approximately 2,900 to approximately 4,000 over the last few years.resulting in
increased postage. Accepted.
MVES Report (Brian Snell): Pleasant Street has a new kitchen manager, Patty. -MVES is
starting to.look at the Dementia Friendly movement and what they might.do in a supportive
role for their communities. Legislative breakfast is 3/27 in Malden at MVES. MVES is
sending correspondence to all.COAs in footprint to see what they are doing from a Dementia
'Friendly perspective.
Old Business:
Dementia Friendly Reading: Dementia_Friends scheduled for this Wed at 9:30 (1 hr) at the
.library =.may be rescheduled due to storm.. It is separate:from Dementia Friendly
Massachusetts. It provides tools to. help recognize dementia. Dementia Friendly Reading
now.has a leadership team; the team-includes.representation from multiple local and

.community, organizations including DKJ, the library,.Creative.Arts,.Residents at Pearl,.the. ,
Chamber,:the Council on Aging, and others. Dementia Friendly Reading Meets on the 26d
. Wed of the month-for.an_hour to: drive it forward.- Traininggis scheduled for the leadership
team and COA members-who can come; Bruce Johnson &.Jane Burns will.be trained-to run
the program (Dementia champions)so they can offer.it community-wide at a_ny time,. Jane.
Burns will:be speaking.to.the Rotary giving a talk that is:simiiar to the one she gave:to the
DKJ foundation. Dementia Friendly-Reading has.a team, action items, is working on a
branding etc. Leadership meetings have been moved to the library.
25th Anniversary Planning: Thomas.Procopio and-John.Parsons met and decided: 'not to set a:.
rain date, .instead there.wiil be tents on the patio and the Center will be open. Rain or shine .
there will be a celebration.. The theme color is green (which is the last color you' see when

Decided they need a budget: ooking.for entertainment: Would like.to get some activities .
at the center filmed.so a video could be.playing in the great room during the event.- RCTV
might be able to help (with Kevin Walsh providing some help). Brian-Snell will call Phil
Rushmore (RCTV) - Jane-Burns will provide a list of dates of activities for Brian Snell so
students could film. They want a give away. ._;T'here will be an art show. Next meeting is
3/23 -- they will discuss budget and potential sponsors.. Jane Burns will have a budget by
the next meeting,
Easter Meal Delivery: _Friday March 30th.. Harrows Chicken_Pot Pies is doing.them for half
price. Meet at.Harrows at 1:00. Cupcakes from Market Basket. Sandy Shaffer, Joan Coco,.
John Parsons, Margaret Havey, Pooja Parsons, Janya Stafford have volunteered'.
:Computer.Room Update: We got the grant from Reading Cooperative Bank to purchase the
5 computers, 5 monitors, software, and the printer:. A plaque will be.posted. Consequently.
the money the COA initially approved for this purpose will be reimbursed.to Burbank. The
Center could use .$3000 to cover.the reception area and the great room (Laptop, color,
multi-function printer for staff use; electronic.Bulletin Board). The town will cover-paper and
.ink. Margaret Havey. made a motion to approve $3000 from Burbank for technology
improvements for the reception area and great room. Thomas Procopio seconded. All in
favor. Approved..
New.Business:
Postage Funding Request: The finance department needsthe COA to approve $5000 from
Burbank for newsletter mailing for calendar year 2018. Motion from Brian Snell. . Second by.
Margaret Havey. All'in.favor. Approved.
Birthday Cakes Funding Request. Motion by Margaret Havey to approve $400 for birthday .
cake money from Burbank. Second by John Parsons.. All.in favor. Approved.
Upcoming Events:.Saint Patrick's Day lunch. Volunteer appreciation dinner - 4/19.
