Topics of Discussion:
The seventh monthly meeting of the J.W. Killam Elementary School was held in the
conference room of the Killam Elementary School on March 5, 2018.
Call to order:
A quorum of members being present and the meeting having been duly convened at Killam
School by the Killam Principal, Sarah Leveque had called.the meeting to order at 3:00 and
proceeded with business.
Review and Acceptance of Minutes:
Members reviewed draft minutes from the February meeting..
There being no further discussion, Ms. Leveque moved that the minutes for the month be
accepted as drafted.
New Business:
Ms. Leveque informed the committee that there has been an increase in our school's
population by 4 students, 1 new para educator, and there will be 2 new para educators to.
come.
Ms. Leveque informed the committee that there would be updates made to the Parent
Handbook to include safety reminders. We are becoming more vigilant about having adults
identify themselves as they enter the building.
New School Information:
• All grade levels have received writing training this.year

• K-2 Teachers have received math training th"is year
• 3-5 Teachers will receive math training next year
Focus Area: MCAS:
• Why do the results matter?
o School receives level based on multiple years of data
o We have not"received scores for the past two years (2 years ago there was a.
glitch in the reporting, this past year there was no score because we went to
MCAS Next Generation.
o The state determines what growth you should make based on-the data. .
o. Special Education Scores are exceeding the states expectations
o " A large percentage of our students.are very close to meeting the standard
P If you go below 95% attendance, the state drops you by one warning level
The Levels are"as follows:
o Level 1- doing well.
o Level 2-.:pay attention .
o Level 3- you receive funding from the state for specific interventions
o Level 4-the state takes over
Adjournment
There being no further business, the School Council adjourned at 4:00 with plans to
reconvene on April 2, 2018 at 3:00 pm.
