Topics of Discussion:
1. Call to Order.: Sarah McLaughlin called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.
2. New Business:
a. Presentation by Understanding Disabilities:Tara Price and Karen Serevitch
presented on Understanding Disabilities- history, how they work in the Reading
community, and volunteer opportunities ;
■Programming for all grade levels- elementary, middle, and high school
MUD at Home- new resource this year for.parents to use at home. Change
and empathy don't just.happen at school - it needs to carry over to home
setting
■Host several community events, including Teal.Pumpkins and the Gala
MUD.needs—250 volunteers to run their program each year and also need
help with fundraising
■Moving_ forward, UD would be.interested in receiving feedback from
SEPAC parents on resources they are developing for UD at Home
b. Upcoming speakers:
■Lisa Studer- a new date still needs to.be identified. Ms. Wilson will work
to find new dates and topics. Suggestions from SEPAC included: role of
BCBA; assessments, and strategies-to carry over to the home.

■Nancy Duggan - available to come speak on 4/25/2018. Will be held in
RMHS library media center
■Sarah Ward -confirmed to speak on 3/20/2018 in the Parker auditorium
■David Walsh -speaking 3/22/2018 in the RMHS auditorium on social
media and anxiety
c. Community discussion: Discussion of topics parents would be interested in
learning more about
■ALICE drills and other protocols in place for children with disabilities
■Inclusion vs integration -we use terms interchangeably, but they mean
two different things
■Team chairs- need clarity around which staff members are covering
which schools and also introductory email to parents from new team
chairs. Parents are unaware who their team chairs are.
