Update on School Happenings (time permitting) Student Walkout: Mrs. Shankland discussed the walkout from start to finish.,She explained that she did speak with a few concerned parents regarding ensuring students are safe as well as the purpose of the walkout. Due to-the weather, students assembled in the auditorium instead of going outside to the turf. The students were very serious during the assembly and respectful of their peers. Students spoke about gun control, treating each other with kindness, promoting inclusion and acceptance, supporting and looking out for each other, and letting adults know.whon someone may need help. Advisory: Mrs. Shankland discussed the advisory survey that was given to both students and staff. Staff spent a faculty meeting discussing the results and developing next steps for the rest of the year. Students were discussing results during advisory on Wednesday, March 28. -70% of our 7 '/8'graders report they are happy. -Many of our students report being stressed about their expectations of themselves, as well as parent/teacher expectations. -Students and teachers would like to address the following areas during advisory: team building, community service projects, kindness/empathy (anti-bullying), stress reduction strategies -Advisory was very structured this year due to wanting consistent expectations for the use of time across the building: We will work with facing history to choose from their resources/activities ourselves now that we know what they'have available. The Social Emotional Learning Grant will fund 3 teachers from each middle school to develop/revise our advisory program. Teachers would like to have toolkits for themes and pick and choose activities that match their students' needs, group dynamic and teaching styles. Meeting adjourned at 6:40pm Next Meeting: May 2, 2018 at 5:30 pm Respectfully submitted by, Richele Shankland, Principal Page 2
