Topics of Discussion:
The fourth monthly meeting of the-J.W. Killam Elementary School was held in the
conference room of the Killam Elementary School on December 4, 2017.
Call to order:
A quorum of members being present and the meeting having been duly convened at Killam
School by the Killam Principal, Sarah Leveque had called the meeting to order at 3:00 and
proceeded with business.
Review and Acceptance of Minutes:
Members reviewed draft minutes from the November meeting.
There being no further discussion, Ms. Leveque moved that the minutes for the month be.
accepted as/drafted.
New Business:
Budget: Members received a budget update from Mr. Marragoni. He informed us that there
is an accelerated time frame due to the override situation. The school committee will be
meeting between 1/8 - 1/18 and voting on proposed budget 1/18.
There are 2 separate budgets being proposed, one if the override passes and one if it does
not.
The committee then moved on to continue looking at Potential Focus Areas for the 2017-
2018 year:
Page 1 1
• Mindfulness
• Homework guidelines
• Attendance issues
• Community assets to support schools and our students
Member took time to record any questions, wonderings and comments about each of the 4
potential focus areas in order to prioritize the list. We discussed our greatest concerns/
needs for each area J
Members discussed looking at MCAS results since they also connect to attendance,
homework; mindfulness, and community assets, to support school and families. Members
decided that this would be our focus area for the 2017=2018 school year.
Adjournment
There being no further business, the School Council adjourned at 4:00 with plans to
reconvene on January 8, 2018 at 3:00 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lauren Gramolini
