Topics of Discussion:
I: Welcome
• Introductions
II. Sharing about the start of the year/what is new
• What is new is built into the improvement plan. We'll discuss as we review the plan.
III. Review School Improvement Plan Draft/provide feedback
• Reviewed page 6 of the School Improvement Plan.
• A question was raised about "closing the gap." Sarah explained that the goal is to
have the lower performing students increase at a higher rate than the higher
performing population in order to close the gap.
A question was raised if it's possible to close the gap. Sarah said that's why it is our
goal to reduce the gap and not expect to close it in one year.
Advisory has changed- Monday, Tuesday and Friday advisories are working on Facing
History curriculum.
• Wednesdays and Thursdays is now "WIN" Block. Extra support in Math, Reading,
Social and Executive Functioning. Other students are organizing binders/lockers on
Wednesday and Reading on Thursday
• Focus Area C: Explaining how two of the Math levels have collapsed and the
challenges students and teachers may face.
•. Focus Area D: Explaining the Student Support Team (SST) .
.. A question was asked about how Math teachers have been trained on differentiation.
Teachers went to a PD, worked with the principal at Parker and work with Mahesh
Sharma.
• There was a'discussion on how the focus areas should be student centered.
• Discussion about why they combined two math levels. Talked about what the
benefits are and how it is more work for the teachers, but data shows that students
learn better if they are taught heterogeneously.
• It was discussed that co -teaching is the best way to support the heterogeneous
classroom.

• Concerns were raised about WIN and how we are challenging higher performing
students. It was discussed that in the future high performing students sign up for
independent study or extension block.
