conference room of the Killam Elementary School on June 5, 2017
Call to order:
A quorum of members being present and the meeting having been duly convened at Killam
School by the Killam Principal, Sarah Leveque had called the meeting to order at 3:00 and
proceeded with business.
Review and Acceptance of Minutes:
Members reviewed draft minutes from the May 81h meeting.
There being no further discussion, Sarah Leveque moved that the minutes for the May 8th
meeting be accepted as drafted. Katie Cole seconded the motion. The members then voted
unanimously to approve the minutes.

New Business:
• The school building budget has been approved.
• Class size update- There has been very little Fluctuation- This summer about 30
families will be leaving and about 7 new students will be added. Class placements
are occurring and staff is working hard at having well-rounded, balanced classrooms.
• School Improvement Plan- Principal Leveque has submitted the final school
improvement plan to Dr. Doherty.

Ms. Leveque shared the results of the survey that went home to parents. About 99
parents responded. Results were mostly favorable with the following concerns that
hope to be addressed at these council meetings next year:
1. To improve the 2 way communication between parents and staff.
2. Location of indoor/outdoor flag so it is more visible when dropping off
students
3. Homework guidelines
4. Include links for web pages that students are using such as Extra Math, Raz
Kids, Lexia etc on the tab marked Great Sites for Children on the Killam
Web page.
5. Possible conference line for parents who can't attend the school council
meeting.
Other:
Adjournment
There being no further business, and this being the last meeting of this school year, the
School Council adjourned at 4:00 with plans to reconvene in the fall.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lucille Kaloyanides
