Topics of Discussion:
Board of Health meeting came to order at 5:35 pm on May 17, 2017 in the Berger Room of
Reading Town Hall.
Minutes
Minutes of March 28, 2017 were presented. Motion was made by Docktor to accept the
minutes, seconded by Shurland. Motion passed 3:0
Minutes of April 19, 2017 were presented. Motion was made by Docktor to accept the
minutes, seconded by Shurland. Motion passed 3:0.
Chair Report
Costigan advised that Laura Vlasuk had accepted the position as health agent and would be
starting on May 30, 2017. loan Vitale, health Inspector for the past twenty years submitted
her resignation effective June 1, 2017. Bob Bracey who was not in attendance has been
working on a proactive maintenance program for pest control which will be submitted next
month. Costigan acknowledged the services of Donna Pierce and Darlene Foley.
Pesticide Regulations
The proposed pesticide regulations were discussed including comments from town council.
Docktor will contact the Marblehead Board of Health for further clarification on their
approval process. She will also look Into having the educational article Spring, Summer,
Safer Lawns published again to keep Reading residents informed and safe.
Health Agent Position
There was a discussion on how to retain the services of health agents going forward.
Ensminger will contact John Halsey to see if he had contacted the former health agent after
his exit interview.

Costigan will contact Representative Brad Jones' office regarding pending legislation.
Docktor inquired what future goals the Board would be looking at going forward; Le., Fall
Street Faire, Men's Health Day, educational articles.
Docktor made a motion to eliminate Section 25 of the Board of Health Regulations which is
now Incorporated in Section 16 of the tobacco regulations. Motion was seconded by
Shurland. Motion passed 3:0
The next Board of Health meeting is scheduled for June 21, 2017.
Meeting adjourned at 7:OOpm.
