HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-04-03 Speical Education Parent Advisory Council MinutesPAC Meeting on 4/3/13 minutes The meeting took place at the Town Hall in the Berger Conference Room. `kers in attendance: Michele Sanphy Michelle Grasso Whitney Crane Nicole ONeill Melissa Pucci Teresa Teixeira Heather Lee Jennifer Killeen Officers not in attendance: Jodie Vasily-Cioffi Kristi O'Malley Elizabeth Bostic Meeting called to order at 7:10 by Michele Sanphy Melissa Pucci requests items be added to the agenda - discussion of Student Services survey, who gets it? - Discuss Quorum - discussion about Survey Monkey before actually sending out the survey - some of the responses about the core curriculum that came back Ccussion on the types of questions that are in the survey. Reminder to contact Alison Elmer with questions regarding the curriculum for her upcoming discussion. Reminder of the upcoming school meeting for parents to have the opportunity to look at the curriculum Discussion on PACs role with regard to new school curriculum. Reminder that items for the agenda can be entailed in advanced to be added to the list Michelle Grasso calls to vote in the minutes. It is decided to strike the attendance firm the meeting on Oct. 2, since there were no officers at that time It is decided that future minutes only put in officers attended, not names of other members who attend, for privacy purposes. It is suggested that in the future there should be 2 sign in sheets, one for officers, one for anyone who wants to be added to the listserv, and then take a head count. Input during discussion should not include parents' names in the minutes. Minutes are not accepted. Revise and resubmit for next business meeting The next meeting for bylaws subcommittee will be Thurs. 4/11. No other business will be done because we won't have a quorum of officers. "ichele Sanphy proposes we make a subcommittee to rewrite the bylaws for the officers to then review, and `en put it before the whole membership to vote in. Subcommittee should have at least 3 subcommittee members present in order to work on the bylaws. The School Committee rules for subcommittee are read e terms of officers are read from the bylaws �chele Sanphy, Michelle Grasso, Melissa Pucci, Nicole O'Neill, Whitney Crane, Tem Teixeira, Jennifer Killeen all volunteer to be on the subcommittee. Duties of the subcommittee are to be: To go through PAC bylaws and make recommendations about how to make them more functional, using current resources and other resources the committee sees fit. To go through each article comparing it with other bylaws and the school committee section B board conversance and operations, and MASS PAC guidelines, the Open Meeting Law Guide, the Town of Reading guidelines for public officials. Desire to have increased flexibility, clear, remove contradictions, specific terns for officers, open to everyone, membership is currently too exclusive, clarify general membership and voting membership. Revision of bylaws every other year, revisit responsibility of every position. Do we need to add another secretary for maintaining website? Keep election coordinator, make it easier for people to be liaisons, no membership quorum. Change election to the fall when there are more general members at the meetings. Previous year's officers need to have the first couple of meetings in place for the fall. Michelle Grasso puts subcommittee members to a vote. The vote is unanimous in favor of the subcommittee.
