Approval of Minutes: Approval of Minutes from January 23, 2017 proposed. Minor edits proposed and edited. (Grimes/Collins) Vote: Unanimous. 2. Financial Report: Several expenses outside the norm were incurred. Four marketing messages have been installed in various locations throughout library. They are acrylic posters which can be reused. Self -check RFID pads were upgraded to less sensitive readers. The original pads were reading nearby books. Five pads were returned at $300-400 each and the price difference was paid. Piano lock will be installed this week and the outside shades on the remaining lamp posts on the library perimeter will be completed within the next couple of weeks. The Deering Street fence was damaged during recent snow removal, Facilities is handling repair. An issue to be addressed is the clearing of sidewalks on both Deering and School Streets. Patrons and staff who park on those streets have no safe means of walking. The 4 external emergency doors are to be alarmed at $300/each plus installation. David Hutchinson questioned the 7 month budgeted salary decrease of $22,000. This is due to the Assistant Director position being budgeted but not spent. 3. Director's Report: A new circulation page, Kellie Travis, has been hired at $10.03/hr. The other two high school age pages have received a percentage increase to bring their rate to over $10/hr. A new circulation associate will be hired as a "casual employee" for 12hrs/week replacing Maureen Conwell. The Assistant Director Position has been filled by Ashley Waring; a solid choice over two qualified candidates. This is effective immediately upon her acceptance. As a result, a requisition has been submitted for a Children's Librarian. Page 1 1 Programming & Service update: Amy reported that a letter has been received from a patron to acknowledge the positive interaction and skill with a Netguide. The library hosted an author visit regarding child labor and the chocolate industry. The Innovation Studio is hosting a knitting class. Over February school vacation week a fairy tale program is being held. Ashely Waring was part of the Caldecott Committee and was in Chicago for the annual ALA conference and reported that it was a positive experience. Building Update: The Teen room is complete. Local History room is just awaiting the tv installation; microfilm is now available to lend. The Castle in the Children's Preschool area will be installed this week necessitating closure of the picture book room from 1-5pm on Friday. The security gates will be up and running next month. They were part of the construction package and are provided by Envisonware. The Town Facilities department is to handle all heating issues; not the library custodians. Question was raised by David Hutchinson regarding punch list items. The architects will be brought in soon to review project. There is a March deadline for submittal and affidavit to confirm the monies spent. 4. Other Business: There are no policies currently under review. A working group will be formed to review/update the mission and vision statement. Three applications have been received for the two open Trustee positions (Vicky Y. and David H.). The Friends of RPL are coordinating a fundraiser, 'Baking with Friends". It is a literary themed raffle, to be held on April 1st. It is billed as an event similar to the successful "Festival of Trees" sponsored by the Reading Education Foundation. Meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm (Collins/Grimes) Respectfully submitted ce Collins, Secretary Page 1 2
