Topics of Discussion:
A. Chase opens meeting at 7:14pm. E. Sisson makes an amendment to the minutes as
she was not listed as a member who was not present. Members approve meeting
minutes from 1.11.17 with 4-0-1 vote.
G. Fiorente presents first amplified sound permit for the FORR/Reading Lion's 5K event
on July 20th for amplified sound. The committee suggests asking if they plan to have
inflatable down there. G. Fiorente will ask the organizations if they plan to have a
structure down there and if so, they need to go through Bob Keating. F. Driscoll makes a
motion to approve the amplified sound permit from 4:30pm - 8:00pm for the
FORR/Reading Lion's club event on July 20th. R. Hand seconds. Committee in favor of
meeting minutes from January meeting 5-0.
G. Fiorente presents the next amplified sound permit for the 5K event at Birch Meadow
in Memory of Mrs. Tewksbury on April 29th with a Rain date of April 30th from 9am-
12pm. F. Driscoll asks about sports taking place down in the Birch Meadow Area. G.
Fiorente says she will communicate with the organizations to let them know about the
event so they can park by the FH. G. Fiorente will also inform the YMCA of the event.
Committee holds a discussion about the blue laws for the Sunday rain date and some
members express concern.
F. Driscoll makes a motion to approve the amplified sound permit for Saturday, Aril 29th
for the Remembering Mrs. Tewksbury event from 9am-12pm. D. Foley seconds. 6-0 in
favor. F. Driscoll makes a motion that the committee not approve the rain date on Sunday,
April 30th . R. Hand seconds. More discussion takes place on blue laws. R. Hand suggests a
later start time to align with blue laws. Committee is split 3-3-1 on motion.
E. Sisson makes a motion to approve amplified sound on April 30th after 12pm for the same
event. J. Borawski seconds. Committee votes 6-0-1.

G. Fiorente moves on to discuss vandalism issue at the green shed at the Birch Meadow
Complex. She would like to explore getting the lights on to a panel that could be controlled
remotely since too many people are getting access to the shed and lights are also being left
on constantly during the season. Committee briefly discusses the access of the shed. F.
Driscoll makes a motion to approve the exploration of the control panel and the purchase if
it is under $10,000. K. Kaminer seconds. Committee votes 7-0.
G. Fiorente mentions the tennis pass program which was brought up in a previous meeting.
There has been a significant decline of in the purchase of tennis passes says G. Fiorente.
She gives background info on 2015 vs 2016 passes sold and how last year there were only
28 passes sold. G. Fiorente indicates that the cost to light the courts and provide paid tennis
monitors far exceeds the amount of money brought in for the tennis pass program. She
suggests that for this reason, that there not be tennis monitors this season. The committee
has a brief discussion on the tennis pass program. D. Foley makes a motion to support the
elimination of the paid tennis court monitors. E. Sisson seconds. All in favor 7-0.
K. Kaminer asks about the status of the motion sensor for the lights on the court. G.
Fiorente answers that J. Feudo was looking into this before his departure but had not been
getting a response from the company. G. Fiorente says she has not follow up on the project
but will do so.
F. Driscoll states that RYS has offered to donate the bleachers at Sturgis Park to the
Recreation Division. G. Fiorente has asked B. Keating to look over bleachers and they will
decide whether are not to accept the offer.
R. Hand gives an update on RCASA. He says that they are doing High School leadership
trainings. He also states that they are actively involved in monitoring the legalization of
marijuana and how if stores want to come in to Reading it will have to go through Town
Election. He adds that RCASA had a featured article in the Reading Magazine and brought in
a copy to show the committee.
D. Foley asks about the T -Ball cut off ages. G. Fiorente states that they have always
followed the cut offs based on Reading Baseball/Little League cut offs. G. Fiorente states
that she will follow-up with S. Zessis on their age requirements and cut offs.
D. Foley mentions the board meeting for Men's Softball and their want to get new clay on
the ball fields. D. Foley says there is pushback on this improvement. K. Kaminer recalls J.
Feudo getting a similar request and suggests asking him for past information.
R. Hand makes a motion to adjourn at 8:41pm. E. Sisson seconds. All in favor 7-0
