Financial Report (R. Urell)
• Salaries on target;
• Trustees Financial Reports reflect 8 months of expenses.
Trustee Liaison's Reports
Foundation (R. Curtis)
Helen A Nigro Speaker Series will present Roland Merullo, author of the Revere Beach Trilogy
on Wednesday, March 23`d and Reading resident and award winning puppeteer Judith O'Hare will
speak on'The Power of Puppets to Entertain and to Educate on Monday, April 11`".
Friends (C. Dubois)
A "Hole" Lot of Fun fundraiser featuring 18 Holes of Miniature Golf at $5.00 per player will be
held inside the Reading Public Library on Sunday, May t, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a quiet
study area set aside for students who may visit the library to study for finals.
Budget FY12
P. Petry stated the Finance Committee has not yet finalized voting on the budget, Wed., March 23
will be review of the capital budget and Wed., March 30 will be the final FY12 Budget meeting.
Discussion
• Trustees want to convey to the Finance Committee the importance of the need for the $27,640
M.A.R. shortfall;
• The Trustees will ask Marsie West, Chairperson, Finance Committee for a time spot on the agenda
of March 30, 2011 meeting at RMLD to make a statement regarding the budget shortage;
• J. Doucette will write the statement and C. Dubois will speak at the budget open hearing;
• The Trustees are concerned that an application for the M.A.R. waiver will risk the approval of the
Library Building Program Grant application;
• P. Perry stated she understands the Trustees' point, however stated all the Town departments are
asking for small amounts.
State budget update: Library received 2nd round of aid $12,662.14 bringing total received to
$24,438.56. R. Urell sent letter to MBLC thanking the staff for their work in getting State Aid
funds.
Building Program
• Schematic Design will need Town Meeting approval (planned for 3 nights April 25, April 28 and
May 2 2011) D. Hutchinson read aloud R. Curtis's Article 12 Commentary;
• Trustees will present the design on Saturdays, March 26 through April 23 from 10:00 am — 2:00
p.m. R Urell linked schematic design on Library website under Director's blog and front page
news. Post cards will be sent to Town Meeting members informing them of the upcoming
Saturday promotions;
• R. Curtis presented draft marketing brochure to Trustees — discussion was made to reformat the
information on brochure to be included with Article 12;
• A stand alone appendix to the Warrant featuring schematic floor plans and goals of design will be
worked on to include with the Commentary. D. Hutchinson asked if a PowerPoint presentation
could be made;
• A discussion was held whether the architects should present at the Town Meeting — consensus was
made to invite the architects and to coordinate timing with Town Manager and Town Moderator.

Director's Report
• Planning Library Staff Day at MLA conference in Danvers on Thursday, April 28. The library
will be closed;
• April is Poetry month —Emily Dickinson presentation to be held on April 5,2011;
• An interesting handout "Beyond the Stack" was given to Trustees for their perusal.
Statistics Report
• D. Socha commented on the report which gathers data for budget decision making.
Trustee Items:
• Library Legislative Day is Monday, March 28 at the State House — Reading delegation has an
appointment with Representative Brad Jones.
