Board of Selectmen Meeting - February 7, 1989
Present were Vice Chairman Russell T. Graham, Secretary Mary S.
Ziegler, and Selectman John H. Russell . The Town Manager
reviewed the status of the Callan litigation. It is possible
that this litigation will not be settled.
The Town Manager reviewed with the Board of Selectmen the
proposed agreement with the Reading Patrolmen's Association. The
Board was concerned about the cost of implementation, but agreed
with the concept of bringing the patrol officers up to the median
range for other police departments within our area. It was indi-
cated that, although phasing might be a concern, this would be
done through attrition within the Department. Also, this would
not result in a net loss of patrolmen on the street since going
to a civilian dispatcher will free up patrol officers for road
duty. The three members of the Board present expressed support
for the agreement, and want to see further data at their meeting
on February 13, 1989, prior to approving the agreement.
On motion by Russell, seconded by Ziegler, the Board voted to go
back into public session to adjourn. All members present voted
in favor.
Respectfullly submitted,
