HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-12-04 Board of Selectmen Executive Session Minutes Minutes of the Executive Session Board of Selectmen Meeting - December 4, 1990 Session One The Board convened in Executive Session at 7 : 03 p.m. in the Selectmens' Meeting Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, MA. Present were Chairman Russell Graham, Vice Chairman Daniel Ensminger, Secretary George Hines, Selectmen Eugene Nigro and Sally Hoyt, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, Public Works Diretor Anthony Fletcher, Town Counsel H Theodore Cohen. The outline of an agreement with GE was reviewed by Town Counsel and by the Public Works Director. After considerable discussion, the Board expressed support for pursuing agreement based on the outline of Mr. Cohen's letter of November 7 to Jeffrey J. David- son Esquire, attorney for GE. Additional requests made were that we get some wording outlining potential future liability perhaps through the definition of "concerned matters" and* that we try to get a little bit more than the one million dollars proposed for settlement. Town Counsel was also given authority to go ahead and serve notice on the potential responsible parties- as to potential litigation between the Town and these business along Concord Street in North Reading. On motion by -Ensminger seconded by Hoyt the Board voted to adjourn to the regular session at 8: 07 p.m. , by voice vote with all members in agreement. -- Session Two The Executive Session convened in the Conference Room next to the Selectmen's Meeting Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, MA at 11: 18 p.m. Present were Chairman Russell Graham, Vice Chairman Daniel Ensminger, Secret. ry George Hines, Selectmen Eugene Nigro and Sally Hoyt, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner. The Town Manager indicated that the preliminary appraisals for Pearl Street School indicated a value of only $300 , 000 to $400,000, and that the Board may want to consider not offering that property for sale. The Town Manager previewed an outline of the settlement of the mediation regarding health insurance. The consensus of the Board was to go ahead with the proposal as outlined. The Town Manager outlined a proposed settlement with the Firefighters' Association regarding the arbitration on health in- surance. The Board of Selectmen recommended that this matter be pursued. On motion by Ensminger seconded by Nigro the Board voted to ad- journ from Executive Session at 11: 55 p.m. All five members voting in the affirmative the Executive Session was adjourned at 11:55 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Secret
