The Town Manager reviewed the status of the final contract with the Fire Department. The Fire Fighters have raised the issue of the 16% differential between Fire Fighters and Lieutenants, and 14%differential between Lieutenants and Captains. They cited Article 11 of the existing contract. The Town Manager noted that the cost added on to the existing settlement would be $7,600 to $20,500 depending on interpretation of the contract language. The Board felt that the agreement that has been ratified and approved by the Board of Selectmen, with funding recommended by the Finance Committee, is the agreement that we should stay with. They noted that the Union was well aware of any pay disparities as part of the negotiation, that the contract talks about the 14% and 16%as "a goal over time" and that the settlement reached was appropriate. The Town Manager reviewed outstanding issues in the clerical negotiations. Agreement has been reached on most issues, but the clerks want a $150 reimbursement for eyeglasses, and one additional floating holiday. The Board felt that the employees have adequate time off, and that reimbursing for eyeglasses was not appropriate. They did recognize the special nature of the clerical bargaining unit work, and suggested that some other method of recognizing this uniqueness should be explored. Professional Development and Training were two options that were explored. The Town Manager will go back and try to negotiate within these guidelines. On motion by Burditt seconded by Hines the Board voted to adjourn at 11:50 p.m. on a role call vote with all five members present voting in the affirmative. Respectfully submitted, ecretary
