Executive Session
April 11, 2000
The meeting convened in the Community Room of the Reading Police Station, 15 Union
Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Sally Hoyt, Vice Chairman
Matthew Nestor, Secretary George Hines, Selectmen Camille Anthony and Matthew
Cummings, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner.
The Town Manager reviewed that status of negotiations as of April 7, 2000 with Lincoln
Properties. The Town Manager also reviewed the financial.review and school children
generation.
Selectman George Hines suggested that we need to very carefully define what the plain
closure of the landfill is since that was an issue with Corporex.
Selectman Matthew Cummings noted that Town Meeting Members may be concerned
about the residential nature of much of the development.
Chairman Sally Hoyt, Vice Chairman Matthew Nestor, Selectmen Camille Anthony and
Matthew Cummings supported the Lincoln development as proposed. The consensus
was that it was a better development and that the financial return to the Town is
considerably better. Even if the office is not developed by Lincoln, the financial return to
the Town is the same as for the next rank developer, but the Town would wind up with an
office site that has additional value.
Selectman George Hines still expressed concern about residential development on this
site, and preferred the commercial development.
Selectman Matthew Cummings suggested that we get confirmation from Dickinson as to
exactly what their proposal is.
Selectman Camille Anthony noted that in addition to the financial aspects, Lincoln
Properties was aesthetically a better gateway to the community.
Selectman George Hines left the meeting at 10:30 p.m.
On motion by Nestor seconded by Cummings, the Board of Selectmen voted to adjourn
the Executive Session of their meeting of April 11, 2000 at 10:40 p.m. On a roll call
vote, all four members present voted in the affirmative.
Respectfully submitted,
