Executive Session
March 25, 2008
The meeting convened at 10:30 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, 16 Lowell Street,
Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman James Bonazoli, Vice Chairman Stephen
Goldy, Secretary Ben Tafoya, Selectmen Camille Anthony and Richard Schubert, Town
Manager Peter Hechenbleikner, Assistant Town Manager/Finance Director Bob LeLacheur and
Paula Schena.
Labor Negotiations
The Town Manager reviewed the Police Officers' contract, and noted that the Police Union
ratified the contract last evening. The contract included 2%, 1% and 2% salary increases,
improved management rights language, reduced sick days from 15 to 12 days, simplifies Sick
Bank,prohibits details after sick leave, and puts the full Quinn Bill in the base pay.
A motion by Tafoya seconded by Goldy to approve the labor contract between the Town of
Reading and the Reading Police Patrol Officers' Association effective July 1, 2007 through
June 30, 2010, and to authorize the Town Manager to execute the contract on the Board's
behalf was approved on a roll call vote with all five members voting in the affirmative.
The Town Manager reviewed the health insurance contract between the Town and the Public
Employee Bargaining Committee. He noted that the HMO Blue office co-pay is being increased
to $20.00.
A motion by Tafoya seconded by Anthony to approve the agreement between the Town of
Reading and the Public Employee Bargaining Committee for health insurance for active
employees and retirees for a term of June 1, 2008 through May 31,2009 in substantially the
form submitted to the Board, and to authorize the Town Manager to sign on the Board's
behalf was approved on a roll call vote with all five members voting in the affirmative.
A motion by Anthony seconded by Schubert to adiourn the meeting of March 25, 2008 at
11.00 p.m. was approved on a rollcall vote with all five members voting in the affirmative.
