HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-05-16 Board of Selectmen Executive Session Minutes Board of Selectmen Meeting Executive Session May 16,2006 The Executive Session convened at 9:25 p.m. in the Town Hall Conference Room, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Camille Anthony, Secretary Stephen Goldy, Selectman Ben Tafoya, Assistant Town Manager/Finance Director Bob LeLacheur,Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner and Paula Schena. Litigation The Town Manager reviewed the Joey Joseph case regarding a train incident. Mr. Joseph was a conductor on a train that hit a woman. He refused to give an ID to the Police so the Police removed him from the train. He charged the Reading Police Department with false arrest and discrimination. He was demanding over six figures and then dropped down to $30,000. The Judge ordered us to settle. The Town Manager noted that if he had been driving a car, he would have to show a license but there are no laws for trains. Land Acquisition The Town Manager noted that this is for the property at 1481 Main Street. The owners know the property is not worth $1.2 million. The Town had an appraisal done and it was valued at $675,000. The Town Manager noted that Brad Jones put $350,000 in the House Budget and if we make a deal,he will ask the amount to be increased to half the cost. The Assistant Town Manager asked if there were any additional costs involved, and the Town Manager noted approximately $50,000. The Board directed the Town Manager to try to negotiate for$776,000 but not to exceed $805,000. A_ motion by Goldy seconded by Tafoya to adiourn the Executive Session of May 16, 2006 at 9.35 p.m. was approved on a roll call vote with all three members voting in the affirmative.
