Executive Session
December 2,2003
The Executive Session convened at 9:15 p.m. in the Town Hall Conference Room, 16 Lowell
Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman George Hines, Vice Chairman
Richard Schubert, Secretary Gail Wood, Selectmen Camille Anthony and Matthew
Cummings, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner and Paula Schena.
Labor Negotiations
The Town Manager reviewed a survey of contract settlements in surrounding towns. He noted
that a lot of management staff are at the top step and he would like the Selectmen to consider
some amount of merit pay for them. Chairman George Hines noted that criteria needs to be set
up for the top step. The Board discussed the length of contracts and amount of COLA.
Litigation—128 Sales
The Town Manager noted that the settlement is that Dickinson will build a stairway from 128
Sales to Chili's, add a boulevard entrance and traffic light, move the flare station, and give
permission for 128 Sales to cross the property.
A motion by Cummings seconded by Wood to adjourn the Executive Session meeting of
December 2. 2003 at 10:00 p.m. was approved on a roll call vote with all five votes in the
affirmative.
