Executive Session
December 26, 1995
The Executive Session convened at 9:15 p.m. in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, 16 Lowell
Street, Reading, Massachusetts. Present were Chairman Sally Hoyt, Vice Chairman George
Hines, Selectmen Dan Ensminger and Bruce MacDonald, Town Manager Peter Hechenbleikner,
Special Counsel Peter Epstein, Cable TV Committee members Richard Cohen, Jim Guarente and
Mike Longo.
Cable TV Renewal
The Board discussed the possibility of a one year extension. The major issues outstanding are
externalization of $140,000 of capital expenses needed for the studio. Epstein has in other
communities previously agreed to 30 day extensions (Peabody). The Board discussed five
options:
(1) granting a three year extension
(2) granting a five to ten year extension
(3) granting a thirty day or sixty day extension
(4) doing nothing
(5) denying the license
On motion by Hines seconded by MacDonald, the Board voted to go into Open Session and grant
a ninety day renewal of the Cable TV franchise to Continental Cable under the same terms and
conditions as the previous agreement, and requests Special Counsel to draw up a ninety day
renewal license for signature by the Board of Selectmen prior to 12/29/95. On a roll call vote, all
four members present voted in the affirmative and the motion was carried.
On motion by Ensminger seconded by MacDonald, the Board voted to adjourn the Executive
Session at 9:50 p.m. on a roll call vote with all four members present voting in the affirmative.
Respectfully submitted,
