Monthly Reports
Only 4 routine food inspections were performed due to still having only one inspector and
the number of housing and nuisance complaints received. Five order letters were issued in
regard to housing complaints. In addition, 6 routine camp and pool inspections were
performed. Ristorante Pavarotti has had a transfer of ownership. Rodent complaints have
continued to be received and the department has been working with business and property
owners to resolve the issues and provide information on preventative measures. All tobacco
violation fines were paid.
DiLauro reached out to the public health departments of Wass Lowell and Regis College
seeking interest in an internship for the fall semester. The potential internship opportunity will
involve a project that helps to support the Board of Health Five Year Strategic Plan and various
other public health issues. The Board authorized the health agent to approve the selected
candidate.

Pierce advised there were 18 communicable diseases reported in June. She met with 4 camp
representatives, reviewed policies and procedure for campers, councilors, CORI's, SORI's and
immunizations. Over 300 records were reviewed; there was one religious exemption. Incident
Command Trainings for IS -100 and IS -700 were completed. Pierce attended public health
meeting at Tewksbury State Hospital, HEAT conference (Heroin Education Awareness Task
Force) blood pressure clinic, Friends & Family Day and the Men's Health Fair.
Friedmann requested the Board review the proposed tobacco regulations to prohibit the sale of
flavored tobacco and nicotine products, excluding mint and menthol for further discussion at the
next meeting. He noted a local pharmacy sells Nicorette gum and lozenges and questioned if
those products are being sold to those under the age of 21. Costigan will research and DiLauro
will contact Maureen Buzby, Tobacco Control Coordinator.
Friedmann spoke with David Henley, Superintendent of the East Middlesex County Mosquito
Control Project and was told at the present time there were no confirmed cases of EEE or West
Nile Virus in Reading.
Town Manager
Bob LeLacheur advised that John Halsey would remain as the Board of Selectmen liaison.
Friedmann inquired about the job posting for the 15 hour per diem health inspector and
LeLacheur stated that at the present time there was not a hiring freeze in place, he saw no
reason why the position could not be posted and to touch base with Jean Delios to proceed with
the posting. The Board voiced their frustration regarding public health articles being written and
the process involved for their publication. LeLacheur will speak with the Town's ombudsman
about expediting the process. The Board discussed a request for private space for the public
health nurse to ensure requirements of HIPPA were being met.
Open session for topics not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
