Board of Health meeting came to order at 5:35 pm on August 24, 2016 in the Berger Room
of Reading Town Hall.

Minutes of July 20, 2016 were presented. Shurland made motion to accept, seconded by
Costigan. Motion passed 3:0
Ristorante Pavarotti
Kannan Kesavalu, new owner of Ristorante Pavarotti as of July, 13, 2016 is requesting a one
year extension due to financial hardship to replace the exhaust fan that has been leaking
grease outside of the building and onto the sidewalk causing a safety issue. Presently the
system is being cleaned three times per year. Costigan made a motion to grant the
extension with the condition the plans to install the new system be submitted by January 9,
2017 and be completed by July 13, 2017 to meet the state requirements. Motion seconded
by Shurland; motion passed 3:0.
Monthly Reports
DiLauro reported that the Fire Department responded to Chipotle on June 29th when the fire
alarm box was tripped. An inspection was performed and no health code issues were found.
Professor's Market will be purchasing a hot holding unit for pizza. The Reading Fall Street Faire
is being held on September 11, 2016. Food permit applications from 8 vendors have been
received to date. The Fall Street Faire Committee will be contacting last year's vendors to
submit their applications before the deadline of September 7th. The per diem position for an
inspector has been posted.

A grant has been applied for from MIIA for funds to purchase an 8x10 trailer to house
emergency preparedness equipment. Notification should be received by October.
Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services is the new vendor contracted to dispose of the medical
waste from sharps containers. A request has been received to have soil and perc testing
performed for a proposed subdivision. Mill River Consulting, Gloucester, MA has been
contacted to act as a consultant. At the present time there is not an evaluation fee for this type
of testing.
DiLauro stated that Nicorette gum and lozenges, because they are considered a cessation
product and not a tobacco product can be purchased by those 18 years of age. Those under
the age of 18 would require a doctor's prescription to purchase these products.
Open session for topics not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 7:05 pm.
