Council on Aging Board Meeting
Monday, March 11, 2013
Reading Senior Center
Call to Order at 6:30.
Present: Carol Oniskey, Erica Deane, Tom Procopio, Dolly DeRosa, Margaret Havey, Kevin
Walsh, Steve Oston, Carol Scrima, Christine Hansen, Jane Burns (Staff)
Absent: Sally Hoyt.
Acceptance of Minutes from February 11, 2013.
Guest speaker, Irene O’Donnell, Mystic Valley Elder Services SHINE Counselor (Serving
Health Insurance Needs of Elders): Ms. O’Donnell explained the SHINE program and how it
assists seniors in understanding Medicare. Board discussed how we can work with this very
important program.
Elder Services Report accepted and approved
Financial Report accepted and approved.
Old Business:
-Board discussed the idea of Art Contest during the year. Margaret Havey and Dolly
DeRosa offered to be part of the planning committee.

-Board finalized details of Easter meal delivery Saturday, March 30. Cupcake City was
selected as the provider for desert. Carol Oniskey will also put together “goodie bags” to
go along with the meal. Delivery drivers are Carol Scrima, Carol Oniskey, Erica Deane,
Steve Osten and Kevin Walsh.
-Board discussed new Social Worker. One member of the Council will be needed to assist
with the final interview. The administrator will communicate the date and time.
-Kevin suggested new policy on Communications between COA and Reading Community
Television (RCTV). Following will be contacted on upcoming events so that Videoing
and airing might be possible:

-The kitchen renovation project is on target and budget. Work is scheduled to start the
end of March.
New Business:
-A new 70” Flatscreen TV has been donated to the Pleasant Street Center by the Crystal
Garden Club. The TV will be installed on March 20.
-The Administrator offered to send the Council packets electronically each month. Three
members have selected this option.
