HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-01-14 Council On Aging Minutes Council on Aging Board Meeting Monday, January 14, 2013 Pleasant Street Center Game Room Present: Erica Deane, Dolly DeRosa, Margaret Harvey, Sally Hoyt, Carol Oniskey, Tom Procopio and Kevin Walsh and Jane Burns (Staff) Absent: Carol Scrima, Steve Oston Guest: Bill Hecht(MVES) and Diane Luther (Nurse Advocate) Call to Order: 6:30 PM Minutes : Accepted and Approved for December 10, 2012 Guest Issues: Bill Hecht of Mystic Valley Elder Services gave us an update. He discussed the Gap Fund, a fund that helps families regardless of financial status. He introduced fundraisers that could help these causes including an upcoming Comedy Night (Anthony’s Medford, 1/26; $40) and a Theatre Production of Thoroughly Modern Millie (Stoneham Theatre, 4/27, $30-40). Diane Luther handles the Outreach Program, a program that focuses on Elders in Reading that have a variety of needs. Diane tries to work with those that have less than perfect support systems. She frequently helps at the Pleasant Street Center. Elder Services Report : Accepted & Approved Financial Report: Accepted & Approved motion A was made by Tom Procopio to reimburse Jane Burns $17.61 to cover the cost of an additional Passed 7-0. dinner that was thought to have been undelivered. 2nd Margaret Havey. Old Business :  It was discussed that Harrows would be a possible choice for the Easter meal  Vaccine program will be rolled out over the next month.  Kevin Walsh will present Report on how COA and Reading TV can work better together in February. Potential starting point is the shingles vaccine announcement. New Business : Carol Oniskey, Erica Deane and Jane discussed Kitchen. Cabinets will be ordered in the next week. Kitchen will be closed for a few days. Rockingham Electric has been contacted to consult about lighting. Motion by Erica Deane to pay $150 from Burbank Fund to Rockingham Electric for consultation fees. Passed 7-0. Second by Tom Procopio. th Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (April 16 – Parker Middle School) discussed. Motion by Erica Deane to fund Dinner from Patrons ($650) and Burbank ($300) to pay for dinner and Passed 7-0. gifts). Second by Dolly DeRosa. Other Issues: Prahba Sankaran has resigned from the board. thth: Upcoming dates of interest: February 27and March 6: Reading Finance Committee meets to discuss Elder Services Budget Adjournment: 7:54.
