HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-09-12 Council On Aging Minutes Council on Aging Board Meeting Monday, September 12. 2005 Reading Senior Center Arts and Crafts Room Betty Cronin opened the meeting at 6:35. Present were: Betty Cronin, Carol Patterson, Dick Anderson, Sally Hoyt Edwina Kasper, Ruth Goldberg, Dottye Foxon, Barbara Powers, Carole Scrima, and Dawn Folopoulos, Administrator. Pat, the van driver was present. Also present, Judith Palmer, friend of Carole Scrima. Camille Anthony, the Board of Selectmen’s liaison to the COA, also attended. nd Motion to accept June minutes by Carole Scrima, 2 by Dick. Dawn presented the Monthly Report and pointed out new format and the Financial Report. Both accepted. There were no questions on the Implementation Plan. Carol Patterson gave a report on the Nurse Advocacy Task Force. Carol is the COA’s representative on this board. The Board now has five members, needs seven. Phase 1 of the board’s agenda will include researching the needs of seniors, the challenge to reach homebound frail elders, how to identify “frail elders”, what services do different town agencies provide, etc. There are 3251 seniors in Reading between ages 60 – 80 and 980 between 81 and 103. Phase 2 will be on funding. Discussed letter to Peter H. Re: Tax Work Program sent in June . He acknowledged receiving it to Dawn, but has made no reply to the COA Board. Dawn will check with Peter again. New Business: Ron Powell will be the Fin Com’s new liaison with the COA. Dawn requested permission to spend up to $200 from the Burbank fund, for an additional page in the October Pleasantries nd Motion by Ruth, 2 by Dick Dick Anderson will be reappointed to the Mystic Valley Elder Services Board from 9/05 to 9/08/ nd Motion by Dottye, 2 Carol. Passed unanimously. Dawn discussed changes being implemented. She will be hiring a Senior Center Coordinator soon – she has one applicant. MVES will take over the Meals on Wheels Drivers in October. Most volunteers who now deliver meals were disappointed with the change, but they were given the opportunity to volunteer in other capacities, such as helping with the mealsite, shopping, Friendly Visitor, etc. Yellow Dot Program was discussed. Dawn will find out more about it. Seniors put Yellow Dot sticker on rear window of car. It indicates that medical information will be in the glove compartment, if they should be in an accident or need medical attention when in their car. nd Motion to adjourn at 7:45 by Ruth, 2 by Carole S.
