Minutes Minutes of May 18, 2016 were presented. Docktor made motion to accept, seconded by Shurland. Motion passed 3:0 Monthly Reports Only 5 routine food inspections were performed due to having only one inspector and an increase in the number of housing complaints. Casey Mellin, health inspector resigned effective May 23, 2016; the position has not been posted as of this date. Ristorante Pavarotti was given fifteen day notice to provide ServSafe and allergen training certifications for kitchen staff. A Market Basket customer purchased some loose lobster meat that contained a staple. Notification was received three weeks after having made the purchase. Follow up investigation found the lobster meat was processed in Boston and that no preparation occurred at Market Basket. An unusual number of rodent complaints were received in three areas of town. Due to the larger than normal amount of complaints, an advisory letter with tips for homeowners to safeguard their property is to be mailed to those in the affected neighborhoods. The letter has been sent to the Town's ombudsman for approval. Page I 1 Tobacco compliance checks were performed during May and 5 retail establishments sold tobacco to a 19 year-old in violation of Section 16 Board of Health Regulation Restricting the Sale and Use of Tobacco Products and Nicotine Delivery Products. As these were the first violations to occur within a three-year period, each establishment was issued a fine of $100.00. Friedmann advised that effective July 1St, 2016, John Costigan will become a member of the Board and Nancy Docktor will become an associate member. Docktor had submitted an article for publication in March regarding the use of pesticides on lawns. Friedmann distributed a revised article that included input from the Town's ombudsman. The Board agreed to publish the revised article. Docktor had been in contact with Michael Green, General Manager at True Green who will be providing a copy of a letter being sent to inform Reading customers of the regulatory compliance around treating sidewalk strips that will be strictly adhered to. Docktor suggested the possibility of drafting a regulation regarding pesticide use on public lands; she will research and provide an update next month. Friedmann stated Chief Segalla submitted an article regarding the Town's rabies policy which had been approved by the Town's ombudsman. Internship DiLauro gave a quick presentation regarding internship program. DiLauro will reach out to Public Health Departments at Regis College and Wass -Lowell. Open session for topics not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting. Rachel Sgroi, resident of Van Norden Road wanted to bring to the attention of the Board what she felt was a potential health issue on a residential property on Colburn Road. She stated she had seen worms and lice between some rocks. She was advised to contact the Board if she saw this on any public property. MaryEllen O'Neill, resident of Summer Avenue expressed concern about the poor air quality due to the increased amount of outdoor burning taking place in town. All outdoor burning permits are issued by the Fire Department and they should be contacted if this continues to be of concern. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
