Monthly Reports
Only 5 routine food inspections were performed due to having only one inspector and an
increase in the number of housing complaints. Casey Mellin, health inspector resigned
effective May 23, 2016; the position has not been posted as of this date. Ristorante
Pavarotti was given fifteen day notice to provide ServSafe and allergen training
certifications for kitchen staff. A Market Basket customer purchased some loose lobster
meat that contained a staple. Notification was received three weeks after having made the
purchase. Follow up investigation found the lobster meat was processed in Boston and that
no preparation occurred at Market Basket. An unusual number of rodent complaints were
received in three areas of town. Due to the larger than normal amount of complaints, an
advisory letter with tips for homeowners to safeguard their property is to be mailed to those
in the affected neighborhoods. The letter has been sent to the Town's ombudsman for
approval.

Tobacco compliance checks were performed during May and 5 retail establishments sold
tobacco to a 19 year-old in violation of Section 16 Board of Health Regulation Restricting the
Sale and Use of Tobacco Products and Nicotine Delivery Products. As these were the first
violations to occur within a three-year period, each establishment was issued a fine of
$100.00.
Friedmann advised that effective July 1St, 2016, John Costigan will become a member of the
Board and Nancy Docktor will become an associate member. Docktor had submitted an
article for publication in March regarding the use of pesticides on lawns. Friedmann
distributed a revised article that included input from the Town's ombudsman. The Board
agreed to publish the revised article. Docktor had been in contact with Michael Green,
General Manager at True Green who will be providing a copy of a letter being sent to inform
Reading customers of the regulatory compliance around treating sidewalk strips that will be
strictly adhered to. Docktor suggested the possibility of drafting a regulation regarding pesticide
use on public lands; she will research and provide an update next month. Friedmann stated
Chief Segalla submitted an article regarding the Town's rabies policy which had been approved
by the Town's ombudsman.

what she felt was a potential health issue on a residential property on Colburn Road. She
stated she had seen worms and lice between some rocks. She was advised to contact the
Board if she saw this on any public property.
MaryEllen O'Neill, resident of Summer Avenue expressed concern about the poor air quality
due to the increased amount of outdoor burning taking place in town. All outdoor burning
