Minutes of the Special Meeting July 21. 1980
The members of the Reading Housing Authority met in special session at 22
Frank D. Tanner Drive in the Town of Reading, Massachusetts at 700 P.M. on
Monday, July 21, 1980.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mr. Dempster. Those
members also present were Mr. White, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Ogden and Mr. Mestra, Harm -
ing a quorum. The Executive Director, Mrs. Pierce and the Maintenance Man folr
the Authority, Mr. Muise, were also present.
During the course of inspections of the buildings for the current Moderniza-
tion projects for energy conservation, attic insulation, painting and caulkin , etc.
many structural problems were noted and the Board felt strongly that these c -
tions should be made promptly before they became major problems in the future.
Therefore, the purpose of this meeting was to meet with the Architect on the
Modernization Program to discuss the possibility of obtaining additional funds
for certain repairs over and above the current Contract.
Mr. Andreys Strikis of Sivirodesign presented to the Board, preliminary
drawings for waterproofing porches, and a summary of estimated costs for this
work and other much needed betterments, as follows:
1. Waterproofing porches - 10 buildings $14,OOb.00
2. Painting all trim - 5 original buildings 10,893.00
and Community building
3. New shutters (solid vinyl)10 buildings
($45/pr. installed X 244 10,980.00
4. Allowance for now column bases - 10 bldga. 1,000.00
$36,873-00
The above figures do not take in the Architect's fee plus
allowed by E.O.C.D.

At this time, the members together with the Architect and staff made
on -site inspections of these work items in the Project and the problems were
well in evidence on many buildings.
Back at the office, review of the drawings and further discussion ensued
and finally, a motion was made by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Ogden, and
unanimously s
VOrEDs To request additional Modernization funds from .E.O.C.D. for
the work as itemized above, plus contingencies. Also, that an addendum to the
Architect's current Contract be approved in accordance with the latest Fee
Schedule, and to authorize the Chairman to sign for the Authority, any forms
necessary to make application for this Grant.
The Chairman thereupon declared said motion carried and said vote in effect.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, and upon a
motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting,
and the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
