Board of Health meeting came to order at 5:35 pm on September 17, 2015 in the Berger
Room of Reading Town Hall.
Minutes
Minutes of June 2, 2015 were presented. Docktor made motion to accept, seconded by
Shurland. Motion passed 3:0
Minutes of July 21, 2015 were presented. Docktor made motion to accept, seconded by
Shurland. Motion passed 3:0
Minutes of August 19, 2015 were presented. Docktor made motion to accept, seconded by
Shurland. Motion passed 3:0
Health Agent
Shurland made motion to appoint Seven DlLauro as health agent, seconded by Docktor.
Motion passed 3:0. Docktor suggested introducing health agent and public health nurse to
public through a press release or RCN.
Monthly Report
Pierce presented report. She emphasized the amount of time involved in approving camps
and participants being properly vaccinated. She would like to put together information to
educate parents on the importance of vaccinations. She noted that the town hall currently
has one automated external defibrillator (AED) on the first Floor and would research the
possibility of getting an additional device for each Floor. There were 120 doses of Flu
vaccine administered at the Reading Fall Street Faire. Clinics for those over the age of 65
and the general are being planned.

Foley reported there were 14 routine food Inspections performed and 16 re- inspections.
Avana Sushi was issued $200 in fines for repeated violations.
DiLauro met with both inspectors to discuss inspections and how improvement could be
made in the future. He noted a few food establishments have not followed the protocol for
a plan review. A flow chart has been developed which will become part of the plan review
packet to assist applicants in the process. Reading is joining the Greater River Valley
Medical Reserve Corps and funds are in the process of being transferred.
Open session for topics not reasonably anticipated 48 hours in advance of the meeting
A potential internship from UMass Lowell was discussed for 2016.
Docktor attended recent meeting of RCASA. A film regarding opiate addiction entitled "If
Only" will be shown at the IMAX Theater On September 30th. RCASA will be having a guest
speaker, Dr. Kevin Hill on October 29, 2015 who will speak about marijuana, "The Unbiased
Truth about the World's Most Popular Weed ". A Healthy Choice Living Club has been
established at the high school.
Friedmann will put together an article for publication in the Advocate regarding suicide
prevention, depression, unprotected sex and drug abuse.
