Health Directors Report
Pizza World will be relocating to 306 Main Street, a site which has groundwater petroleum
products contamination. They have submitted their plan review application. The Health
Department will be working closely with Conservation and Building during development of
the site. Friedmann will look Into the status with DEP.
Other business and items not reasonably anticipated at the time of posting:
Clay began discussion of proposed regulations that would prohibit the sale of drug
paraphernalia, not including rolling papers. She will look Into other communities that have
this regulation and also discuss with Erica McNamara of RCASA.
Clay advised the Reading Fall Street Faire went well. Permits were issued to 28 vendors.
Friedmann opened discussion on the use of tetrachlorethylenes in the dry cleaning business
and the possibility of future businesses converting to the use of less toxic chemicals. There
is growing concern for employees being exposed and those in surrounding businesses that
may also be exposed and the potential link to an increase in cancer rates. Clay will find out
whether other communities are pursuing these issues.
Due to restrictions in the Health Revolving Fund primarily for flu clinic use only, the issue
will be brought before Town Meeting in the spring to broaden the use of such funds.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45 pm.
