HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013-03-18 School Committee Minutes - Executive Session Reading Public Schools Reading, Massachusetts Regular Meeting of the School Committee Executive Session Date: March 18, 2013 Place: Superintendent' Office School Committee Members Present Staff Members Present Karen Janowski John Doherty, Superintendent Hal Croft Mary Delai, Assistant Superintendent Rob Spadafora Chuck Robinson Chief Jim Cormier Lisa Gibbs SRO Corey Santasky Chris Caruso I. Executive Session 8:32 p.m. A. Call to Order Chairperson Janowski called the Executive Session to order. Safety and Security Chief Cormier and SRO Santasky provided an overview of the recent ALICE training. SRO Santasky said the training was broken into two sessions. The first day was an overview and methods to implement and providing the reasoning behind the shift to new methods. The second day actual scenarios were played out. The ALICE system provides for more two way communication between law enforcement and the building as well as within the building. The Town of Wilmington is currently implementing ALICE. Chief Cormier there will be more of a reliance on the staff and educators to share information whether it is over the intercom or via texts or tweets. Dr. Doherty indicated that the Safety Committee will meet to develop plans to implement ALICE. Chief Cormier and SRO Santasky left the meeting at 8:55 p.m. Real Estate Ms. DeLai shared that she had asked the OPM for the Woburn St. property to review the Locker Report to determine how realistic it would be to expand any of our elementary schools. She went on to review that information. Ms. DeLai updated the School Committee on the latest information from St. Agnes. The church has accepted the Town's offer. Town Counsel is drafting a letter of intent. Adjourn Mr. Croft moved, seconded by Mr. Caruso, to adjourn. The roll call vote was 6-0. Mr. Croft, Mr. Spadafora, Mr. Robinson,Mr. Caruso, Mrs. Gibbs, and Mrs. Janowski. Meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m. Approved 4.8.13 Released 2.2.16
