Call to order: A quorum of members being present and the meeting having been duly convened at Wood End School by the Wood End Principal, Joanne King had called the meeting to order at 3:15 and proceeded with business. Review and Acceptance of Minutes Members reviewed draft minutes from the last meeting, which was held on October 5, 2015. NOTE: The meeting of November 2, 2015 took place in the Library Media Centerwith John Doherty presenting the results of his community forums from the spring, 2015. Minutes were not recorded for that meeting as it was not a typical School Council meeting. There being no discussion, Mrs. King moved that the minutes for October be accepted as drafted. Mrs. Murphy seconded the motion. The members then voted unanimously to approve the minutes. Vote: Minutes Accepted 5 -0 -0 New Business: 1. Review presentation given by Dr. Doherty - Community Forums held during spring, 2015. Mrs. King recapped the presentation and allowed time for questions. No questions asked Mrs. King moved forward. 2. PARCC results for Wood End (preliminary) Page I 1 Mrs. King informed the School Council that she will be presenting the PARCC /MCAS results to parents on December 8, 2015. Mrs. Murphy asked if the students would be taking both tests this year. Mrs. King informed the members that MCAS was still a requirement for HIS graduation but elementary and middle school students were taking PARCC. Additionally, the MCAS science test was still being used because there is no science component to PARCC. Mrs. King also informed the Council members that a newly adopted test by the state, which is still being developed (MCAS 2.0) will not go into effect into 2017. PARCC will continue to be used to assess students in the 2015 -2016 school year. Mrs. King showed the members a chart with the basic differences between MCAS and PARCC, informing the members that the goal is to have all students scoring in Level 4 or 5 (meeting or exceeding expectations). Ms. Koehler asked if Mrs. King could explain student growth rate. Mrs. King answered that growth rotes /percentiles (SGPs) are measures of growth for individual students by comparing the change in an individual's achievement on statewide assessments to that of their "academic peers" (all other students in the state who previously had similar historical assessment results). The state defines moderate growth between 40 -60 percentile, with low growth as below 40'" percentile and high growth as above the 60' percentile. Mrs. King also explained the Composite Performance Index (CPI). It is a point index that assigns 100, 75, 50, 25, or 0 points to each student based on their performance. The total points assigned to each student are added together and the sum is divided by the total number of students assessed. The result is the number between 0 -100, which constitutes a district, school, or group's CPI for that subject and student group. The CPI is a measurement of the extent to which students are progressing towards proficiency (a CPI of 100). Mrs. King was asked how the scoring is compared using MCAS and PARCC. Mrs. King explained that there was /is a formula that was created to compare results between the two tests. More information about PARCC testing can be found on the following websites: District PARCC information: htto: / /www.edline .net /pages /ReadingPublic5chools PARCC released Items: htto:// Prc.parcconline.org/assessments /PARCC- related -items 3. Drop Off suggestion: Ms. Koehler made one last suggestion regarding drop off. She suggested that Mrs. King have a sign in a cone that reads "drop off here" so the line can move more quickly in the morning. Parents seem to be unloading one car at a time rather than dropping students off in the designated area. Adjournment There being no further business, the School Council adjourned at 4:05 with plans to meet again on Monday January 4". Respectfully Submitted, Lynda Michel Recording Secretary ft, 12
