School Council - Walter S Parker Middle t 5 Or" 21 P�� � f Date: 2015 -05 -06 Building: School - Parker Address: 45 Temple Street Purpose: Monthly Meeting Attendees: Members - Present: Time: 5:00 PM Location: Conference Room Session: General Session Stacey Bertocchi, Janet Faulkner, Priscilla Hollenbeck, Julie, Joyce, Brian Snell, Bryan Walsh, Doug Lyons, Brendan Norton, Lauren Luskin Members - Not Present: Others Present: Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Douglas Lyons Topics of Discussion: • HR staffing — We will be looking to hire for the following positions: 6t' grade ELA, 6t' and 8t' Grade LLD, Two School Psych's, and 0.5 FTE Reading • MTSS update — We have been developing tiered supports for students focused on behavior, academics as well as social /emotional supports. The goal it two fold (1) to intervene in ways that support students and (2) to teach and coach the behaviors we want to see students develop. • Goal setting for next year — We will continue our SIP Goals for 2015 -2016 goal 1 will support writing and student led conferences, goal 2 will support instruction and the achievement gap for our most at -risk students, and goal 3 will support tiered systems of support (academic behaviors). Walter S. Parker Middle School Improvement Goals — 2015 -2016 School Improvement Goal 1: School Improvement Goal 1: During the 2014 -2016 school years, teachers will collaborate to expand, share and teach engaging lessons that require students to produce five pieces of written work that corresponds to an instructional standard or performance rubric. The work will highlight student growth and will be presented in a Student -Led Conferences at the end of year parent meetings. (Professional Learning, PLC Structures, and Students making their Work Public) School Improvement Goal 2: During the 2014 -2016 school years, teachers and administration will work as a professional learning community to implement tiered systems of support and to focus resources to improve student learning and engagement, student achievement as measured by median SGP, District Determined Measures, as well as a decrease in the achievement gap. (School Culture, Measured Student Outcomes, and MTSS) School Improvement Goal 3: During the 2014 -16 school years, teachers and administrators will successfully implement tiered systems of support to improve behavioral health, student's self - awareness, and decision making as demonstrated by improved school and academic behaviors, main office referrals for behavior, and the ESE Model Student Feedback Survey to measure Page 1 1 student perceptions and student efficacy. (School Culture, Behavioral Competencies and Communication) Grade 5 Transition — We are doing school visits, collecting information from fifth grade teams, school psychologists, reading specialists and special education teachers. We review Parent Information sheets and then draft 4 groups for each of the two teams. • 5:50 to 6:00 p.m. — Question & Answers -When do MCAS/PARCC Scores come to the community? We are hearing August for MCAS and November for PARCC. -Can you tell is about Project Adventure? Grade 6 team building trip in the fall. -Could guidance help more with course selection?
