O� r o � o s39 ?INCOR4�� Town of Reading Meeting Minutes Board - Committee - Commission - Council: TOWN CLERK READING, MASS. 12= 58' Human Relations Advisory Committee _q P Date: 2015 -06 -30 Time: 7 -9 PM Building: Reading Police Station Location: Community Room Address: 15 Union Street Purpose: Monthly Meeting Session: General Session Attendees: Members - Present: Linda Snow Dockser, Mark Segalla, Kyung Yu, Lori Hodin, Monique Gnanaratnam, Camille Anthony, Members - Not Present: Others Present: Devika Ellen Hill from Race Matters Group of UU Church, Christine Hanson, Lynn Dornink Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Lori Hodin Topics of Discussion: Gave thank you gift of flowers to Camille Anthony for her years of service as HRAC Chair Person. Voted Linda Dockser chair for 6 months, and revisit after 6 months 5 -0 Voted Lynn Dornick for recording secretary 5 -0; membership pending Christine- Sent email asked if HRAC wanted to support event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Are we aware of individuals and /or organizations that are supportive of people with disabilities and are working to address barriers? Committee looked over town guiding bylaws for HRAC (2.3.1) and discussed recruiting a real estate agent and /or business owner, as well as other voting and associate members. Camille motions to send June 22, 2015 press release, as amended, to Board of Real Estate, Chamber of Commerce, Advocate, Chronicle, Middlesex East, and other appropriate venues. Vote passes 5 -0 Lori moves to send Lynn's June 29 statement about Church shootings in Charleston SC to Chronicle, Advocate, and post on Facebook. Group discusses implications of sending letter. Vote passes 5 -0 Camille met twice with Lorraine and Andrea from Reading Public Library to discuss Frederick Douglas dramatic reading and concluded that program needs a well thought out venue and requires a lot of work. We will table the program for the summer and perhaps revisit next year. Linda distributes budget for committee perusal, funds remaining $1,280.28. $100 to Reading Street Faire for booth, Police dept will donate tent. Other budget items: METCO idea -- Allocate money for spirit bracelets "Together We are Reading" maybe for METCO, maybe for Reading Street Faire. Training? Helping AWOD registration- they're currently $500 short. Training, bracelets, and booth for town faire with discretion for remaining amount vote passes 5 -0 Devika wondering whether we can merge with Race Matters UU committee (4 -15 members). 75 members went to Mothers Day March.
