HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-06-11 Celebration Trust Commitee MinutesMinutes for the 350th Celebration Trust And Historic Preservation Trust June 11, 2009 Call to Order 7:00 PM June 11, 2009 In attendance: Mark Cardono, Chairperson and Secretary Kurt Habel, Member Bob McLaughlin, Member Everett Blodgett, Member Guests: Downtown Steering Committee: Michele Williams & Sheila Clark Reading Lions Club: Lorraine Barry & Tara Spear Reading Public Library: Lorraine Barry Review and discussion of 350th Celebration Trust Fund and Historic Preservation Trust Applications: 1) Downtown Steering Committee - $17,150 from the 350th Celebration Trust for the "Reading Fall Street Faire" The members read and reviewed the application with Michele and Sheila from the Downtown Steering Committee. The members discussed the application and how well it meets the criteria of the fund. Everett declared that he has been to meetings for the Downtown Steering Committee and will abstain from voting. Bob made a motion to loan $10,000 to the Downtown Steering Committee, for the Reading Street Faire, with the stipulation that any funds remaining will be used to reimburse the 350th Celebration Trust and a report of the full accounting of the event will be provided to the 350th Celebration Trust. Kurt seconded the motion. Vote: 3 -0 -1. 2) Reading Lions Club - $3500 from the 350th Celebration Trust for the "Fireworks on Reading Friends and Family Day" The members read and reviewed the application with Lorraine and Tara representing the Reading Lions Club. Tara provided additional information on recent fund raising activities, which showed they now needed $2,850. They still had 2 fund raising events that have not been reported. The members discussed the application and how well it meets the criteria of the fund. Everett made a motion to grant $2,500 to the Downtown Steering Committee, for the Reading Street Faire, with the stipulation that any funds remaining will be used to reimburse the 350th Celebration Trust. Bob seconded the motion. Vote: 4 -0 -0. 3) Reading -North Reading Chamber of Commerce - $500 from the 350th Celebration Trust for the "Holiday Tree Lighting" The members read and discussed the application and how well it meets the criteria of the fund. Everett made a motion to grant the Reading -North Reading Chamber of Commerce $500 from the 350th Celebration Trust for the "Holiday Tree Lighting ". Bob seconded the motion. Vote: 4 -0 -0. Minutes for the 350 Celebration Trust 2009061 l.doc Page 1 of 2 4) Reading Community Singers - $675 from the 350t" Celebration Trust for a concert at the 2010 Reading Friends and Family Day ($125 props), to commission a piece to celebrate their 90th year ($500), and Commemorative posters and advertising ($50). The members discussed the application and how well it meets the criteria of the fund. Bob made a motion to grant the Reading Community Singers $375 toward the following items in the supplied budget; Commission Music - $250, props - $125, and posters and advertising - $0. Kurt seconded the motion. Vote 4 -0 -0. Because the musical piece was to be played at a public function and a private function, the members agreed to allow for half of the commissioning and the posters and advertising do not meet the criteria. Everett will contact the Reading Community Singers and recommend they apply to the Historic part of the trust, because it may meet that criterion. 5) Reading Public Library - $3000 from the Historic Preservation Trust for continuing the digitization and cataloging of local historic materials project. The members read and discussed the application and how well it meets the criteria of the fund. Bob made a motion to grant the Reading Public Library the full request of $3000 from the Historic Preservation Trust for the digitization and cataloging of local historic materials project. Kurt seconded the motion. Vote: 5 -0 -0. Election of Officers: Kurt moved that the current Secretary and Chairman, both Mark Cardono, remain the same. Everett seconded the motion. Vote: 4 -0 -0. Next open application period: Kurt brought up some issues with the advertising of the open application period. The website will need to be updated. Bob recommended having a default open application period between January 1 and March 31 and have that posted on the website Everett moved to make the next open application period, from January 1, 2010 to March 31, 2010.
