Review of applications for money from the 350th Celebration Trust and the Historic Preservation Trust. Under the
Historic Preservation Trust were 2 applications.
1. The First Congregation Church of Reading, UCC — Request for money to preserve, restore, and copy record
books from the 1770'x_ We were. unsure of the request amount_ We decided to invite in Alan Ulrich, who
wrote the application, to clarify the amount of the _request_
2. Reading Parents Supporting Student Theatre (PSST) — Request for money to put on a play written by the
students_ The play i- based nn historical information of Reading role in the Salem witch hunts of 1692_
There was some question of the origination of the play. A play was written for this period for the
Antiquarian Society. We decided to invite Rosemary Lewis in to clarify the. o--' nc of the book_ The. re guest
was for $3,000.00.
350th Celebration Trust also had 2 applications.
I Crardens Committee R eq tlest for money to print invitations and flyers for the tour of Reading
gardens. The proceeds are to fiind their project to fedn the. gardens at the Coolidge School We, decided to
•invite Ellen Mounteer into clarify what their needs are. The request was for $2,800.00. All members
thought that it was an extravagant amount to spend on invitations_
7. Reading Summerfest, inc. — Request for money to put on the fireworks. This is an annual event that we have
granted money to in the past. We questioned what was going on with the proceeds, and decided to invite in
William Lavoie. His records showed that we ftmded $1,000.00 for the fireworks in 2000. We also saw a
donation to the Reading Band Parents organization. This made it appear that we. were making an indirect
donation to the Band Parents. His request this year is for $1,000.00
It was brought up that the town website misstated the. deadline of applications from March 1, 2001 as March 21,
2001. We decided we would allow applications up to the postmark of March 21, 2001.
Next Meeting, March 28, 2001 _
