350' Celebration Trust Committee
The meeting was convened at 7:07 p.m. in the employee's lounge at Town Hall.
In attendance: Mark Cardono, Mary Williams, Kurt Habel and Francis X. Kyle.
Members reviewed minutes of the July 14th meeting. Frank Kyle moved to accept the minutes as
recorded. Seconded by Kurt Habel. VOTE 4 -0 -0
Correspondence: Six applications were received in response to a short open season for
applications from groups that wished to sponsor or host a Millennium Event. Applications were
reviewed. Requests totaled in the amount of $11,625. Discussion on each application followed.
Mary Williams abstained from all votes.
1. Chlotrudis Awards. Total request $500. Funding would be used in producing the 100 best
films of the century to be featured at one of the Millennium venues. Kurt Habel moved that
we grant the full amount of the request. Mark Cardon seconded. VOTE 3 -0 -1
2. Coolidge School Science Olympics. Total request $750.00 Funding would be used to
produce one of the Millennium Breakfasts to be held on or after dawn at Old South Church.
Frank Kyle moved that we fund this project in the amount of $350. Kurt Habel second the
motion. VOTE 3 -0 -1
3. Joshua Eaton Elementary School PTO. Total request $2,600. Funding would be used to
produce a "Then and Now" project in the 50's decade venue. Frank Kyle moved that we
fund this project in the amount of $500. Kurt Habel second the motion. VOTE 3 -0 -1
4. Reading Band Parents. Total request $3,000. Funding would be used to provide two
performances one with the Jazz Band and the other with the Jazz Vocal Group. Frank Kyle
moved to fund $750 for each 45- minute set the combined band organization performs with a
maximum of 2 sets. The grant could not exceed $1,500. Kurt Habel second the motion.
VOTE 3 -0 -1
5. Reading Cultural Council. Total request $4,000. Funding would be used to sponsor the
Lafayette Orchestra to play as the main event on the town common. Kurt Habel moved to
grant $3,250. There was no second. Mark Cardono moved to grant $3,500. Frank Kyle
second the motion. VOTE 3 -0 -1
6. Creative Arts. Total request $775.00. Funding would be used to provide a visual arts
program and activities for children. Mark Cardono moved to grant $600. Frank Kyle second
the motion. VOTE 3 -0 -1
Discussion took place regarding the next open season for grant applications. It was decided to
announce after New Years that the dates would be February 1 through March 21. A date for
the next meeting will be set for sometime at the end of March.
Frank Kyle moved to adjourn at 9:17 p.m the Kurt Habel second the motion. VOTE 4 -0 -0
