AS iiS .fUN 1 S P 3= 28 School Council -Arthur W Coolidge Middle Date: 2015 -05 -07 Time: 2:50 PM Building: School - Coolidge Location: Conference Room Address: 89 Birch Meadow Drive Purpose: Coolidge School Council Meeting Attendees: Members - Present: Lisa Tighe (parent), Sarah Marchant (principal), Lauren Ream (parent), Laura Warren (teacher), Jennalee Anderson (teacher). Members - Not Present: Paul Guidetti (teacher) Others Present: Minutes Respectfully Submitted By: Jennalee Anderson Topics of Discussion: I. School updates a. Core values assembly i. Cards from parents ii. Behavior matrix II. Quebec trip a. Lauren reported her children enjoyed the trip b. Complimented Mrs. Klein on her diligence III. Prindle Pond a. Sarah reported her child had a great time on the trip IV. PARCC from parent perspective a. Some students reported having easier passages than others b. Is Oliver Twist appropriate for 8th graders to read independently? c. Does it make sense to have 2 rounds of testing? d. Laura -it's an experimental year e. Test sessions seemed shorter V. Vision Discussion a. Would it be most productive to have Sarah write a new draft and then collaboratively revise? VI. Data a. Sarah shared data from parent survey b. Strategic relationships" kept coming up as something to consider c. Sarah asked how we can get more parents and students involved in school council? i. Timing is a concern ii. Need to present more opportunities where parents can be a part of the school community d. Morning coffees with team-"meet the teachers" at Parker i. Could this be something we do? ii. Inviting parents to team assemblies e. PTO meeting during open house? Page 1 1 2013 -09 -19 V h What would parents want to see in school? i. Greek Day ii. Science Olympiad Day iii. Inviting parents to presentations in school iv. Shared learning experiences where students and parents are learning together v. Community read - everyone in town reads the book when the author visits vi. Incorporate parents in the roundtable discussion with kids 1. Observe /participate in roundtables Sarah shared administrator survey data done by teachers i. Discussed areas of strength and areas to work on ii. Some areas are not part of our culture as a school (i.e. the principal reviews lesson plans) Overall feedback on surveys i. Data overload? ii. What is data used for? 1. Helps identify strengths and weaknesses 2. Given to parents /community /teachers in piecemeal not all at once iii. Trend 1. Teachers who have been here longer have had lower ratings than those who have been here shorter periods of time i. Action steps i. Read handbook for next time and think about changes /edits ii.
