Dan Ensminger noted that Bryn is the only applicant in the Timberneck Swamp area. Ms. Burkhart noted that she hopes there will be a variety of people on the committee who show respect and remember this is a community issue. A motion by Sexton seconded by Ensminger to recommend Bryn Burkhart be appointed to the ad hoc Firearms Safety Committee with a term expiring- December 31, 2015 was approved by a vote of 2 -0 -0. The Committee interviewed David Pinette. Mr. Pinette noted that the issue of hunting in Timberneck Swamp is a dead issue. He doesn't hunt in Reading. He reached out to the Mass Division of Fisheries and Wildlife and they will answer any questions that the committee has. He is committed to find common ground. A motion by Sexton seconded by Ensminger to recommend David Pinette be appointed to the ad hoc Firearms Safety Committee with a term expiring December 31, 2015 was approved by a vote of 2 -0 -0. The Committee interviewed Jeffrey Everson. Mr. Everson noted that he is a major proponent of safety. He feels we don't need firearms discharge in the Town. He noted that he worked on the interchange project; worked on smart cars and was a physicist. He asked what motivated the creation of this committee and Kevin Sexton noted that people were hearing gunshots in the Timberneck Swamp area. The Committee interviewed Jonathan Scully. Mr. Scully noted that he has been attending the meetings regarding this issue. He has been a resident since 2005 and recently became a Town Meeting Member. He is a hunter and although he agrees with the safety concerns, he doesn't want people's rights trampled on. He shoots at the range occasionally. He bow hunts in Cedar Swamp. He feels the way the Bylaw is written now is good. Page 1 1 Volunteer Appointment Subcommittee Minutes - May 5 2015 - page 2 The Committee interviewed Eric Fournier. Mr. Fournier noted that he is concerned about the perception of laws being twisted. He is a hunter and the District Chair of Ducks Unlimited. He is also a member of Reading Rifle and Revolver Club and has a license to carry. He attended the January Town Meeting to become informed. He works from home and travels a little. The Committee interviewed Kenneth Lafferty. Mr. Lafferty noted that he has been a Town Meeting Member for five years. He noted that he has experience with town government process and experience with working with regulatory enforcement agencies, laws and regulations. He is familiar with the laws on hunting and has military experience. It was noted that Anthony Torra was not present for the interview. A motion by Ensminger seconded by Sexton to place the following names into nomination for two positions on the ad hoc Firearms Safety Committee with terms expiring December 31, 2015: Antony Torra, Jeffrey Everson Jonathan Scully Eric Fournier and Kenneth Lafferty. Mr. Scully and Mr. Lafferty each received two votes and were appointed. A motion by Sexton seconded by Ensminger to adiourn at 6.55 p.m. was approved by a vote of 2 -0 -0.
